‘The View’ hosts forced to issue four ‘legal notes’

ABC’s “The View” found itself in hot water yet again, issuing four separate legal disclaimers during a single broadcast on Friday. The show, infamous for its polarizing discussions, came under scrutiny for statements made about high-profile political figures, including George Santos, Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and Pam Bondi.

A Flurry of Corrections

The first correction of the day unfolded during a segment led by Joy Behar, who brought up Santos’ legal troubles, highlighting his 23 criminal charges, including wire fraud. Moments later, producers sent her a clarification, which she awkwardly read aloud to the audience.

“We have to clarify that Santos eventually reached a plea deal after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft,” Behar stated, her frustration visible as co-host Sara Haines quipped, “Is that a legal note?”

Legal Notes Pile Up

The discussion shifted to sexual assault allegations against Trump allies Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth, triggering a series of legal notes read by co-host Sunny Hostin.

“Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations and has not been charged with any crime,” Hostin read, followed by another note addressing Hegseth. “Pete Hegseth’s lawyer said he paid the woman [his accuser] in 2023 to head off the threat of a baseless lawsuit. He has denied any wrongdoing.”

Just as the tension seemed to settle, Hostin delivered a fourth legal note involving Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general.

“Both Trump and Bondi have denied allegations of a quid pro quo regarding a donation and decisions about Trump University during her time as Florida’s attorney general,” she explained, while Behar groaned audibly.

Backlash from Viewers

The relentless stream of disclaimers sparked outrage online, with critics accusing the hosts of spreading misinformation only to retract it moments later.

“Someone needs to sue these people into oblivion already,” right-wing comedian Tim Young vented on social media. Another user accused the show of a “pattern” of knowingly spreading falsehoods about Trump and his allies to damage their reputations.

A Show Under Pressure

This isn’t the first time “The View” has faced backlash for its fiery commentary. Critics argue that its hosts blur the lines between opinion and fact, forcing frequent clarifications to avoid legal consequences.

Co-host Ana Navarro summed up the frustration during Friday’s episode: “This show is just going to be legal notes and things we’re selling.” Joy Behar added humorously, “We’re going to call it ‘The Legal Note.’”

Despite the criticism, the show continues to spark debates and draw viewers, proving that controversy, however messy, remains central to its appeal. Whether this approach will hold up under increasing scrutiny, however, remains to be seen.

  1. Behalf, try as you might to spew your hatred, getting called out for your misguided rhetoric now hopefully will put you back in your own lane! Get over yourself! You’re irrelevant and no longer a voice to be heard. You’ve lost your ability to continue to spread misinformation in the media. Your now getting what you deserve – go back to hogwarts and be silent!!

  2. Ah yes, The View where brain cells go to die. Perhaps now it will finally be put out of it\’s misery and taken off the air.
