Evil Dentist Poisoned WIfe and Tried to Kill Detective

Dr. James Craig, the Colorado dentist charged with murdering his wife through poisoned protein shakes, is facing explosive new accusations. Authorities now allege Craig attempted to orchestrate the murder of a police detective investigating his wife’s death while also scheming to plant fake evidence to deflect blame.

Craig, 45, has been charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder after allegedly trying to recruit a fellow inmate at Arapahoe County Jail to kill an Aurora detective, according to court filings reviewed by News9. Prosecutors have declined to name the detective targeted in the alleged plot.

A Twisted Scheme Unfolds

The accusations come as Craig awaits trial for the 2023 death of his wife, Angela Craig, who consumed a lethal dose of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline—a substance commonly found in eye drops—according to the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office. Police say Craig purchased poisons online using his dental office computer, including arsenic ordered just weeks before Angela’s death.

In a separate charge filed last week, Craig is accused of attempting to enlist another former inmate to plant fake suicide notes at his family home. These notes were intended to frame Angela’s death as a suicide. In exchange for the evidence tampering, Craig reportedly offered free dental work for the inmate’s mother.

However, the plan fell apart when Craig’s letter to the ex-inmate was returned to the jail due to an incomplete address. The returned letter now serves as critical evidence in the case, leading to an additional charge of solicitation to commit first-degree perjury.

Legal Team in Turmoil

Craig’s lawyer recently resigned from the case, citing fundamental disagreements with the dentist’s actions. “The client insists upon taking actions that the lawyer considers repugnant or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement,” the attorney stated in a filing.

A Calculated Crime?

Angela Craig’s tragic death in May 2023 shocked the Aurora community. Friends and family described Angela as a devoted mother and loving spouse, making the circumstances of her death all the more harrowing. Authorities say James Craig’s online searches for poisons, coupled with his alleged schemes behind bars, point to a premeditated effort to cover up his crime.

Craig, who has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge, has not yet entered a plea for the latest accusations.

A Community in Shock

“This is just devastating. It’s hard to believe someone could do this to their own family,” said a former patient of Craig’s dental practice, Summerbrook Dental Group, which has since removed his name from its website.

Craig is expected to appear in court on December 16, where he will likely introduce a new attorney. As the case grows increasingly complex, no trial dates have been set for the new charges.

What Lies Ahead

The mounting allegations paint a grim picture of a man desperate to escape justice. With prosecutors alleging both a murder plot and an effort to tamper with evidence, Craig’s legal troubles are far from over.
