In a blistering critique delivered during his Time “Person of the Year” interview, President-elect Donald Trump did not hold back in his assessment of Vice President Kamala Harris’ unsuccessful White House bid. Trump, who was awarded the prestigious title on Thursday, described Harris’ campaign as doomed from the outset, stating, “Her biggest mistake was taking the assignment altogether.”
According to Trump, Harris’ failure stemmed from a fundamental misstep: not understanding her own strengths. “You have to know what you’re good at,” Trump remarked, adding that her lack of engagement with a broader audience sealed her fate.
The President-elect emphasized the importance of connecting with non-traditional media platforms like podcasts and independent streamers—a tactic he credited for his own success. “When she wouldn’t talk to anybody, it shone a light on her,” he said.
Trump contrasted Harris’ strategy with his own. “I did interviews with anybody that asked. If I had the time, I’d do it,” he explained, pointing to his marathon three-and-a-half-hour interview with podcast host Joe Rogan as a defining moment. “The Joe Rogan interview, you know, really showed people something. She didn’t do anything like that, and people started wondering, is there something wrong with her?”
Trump’s recognition as Time’s “Person of the Year” follows what the magazine called a “stunning political comeback unparalleled in American history.” After being ousted in 2020, Trump mounted a relentless campaign that secured his return to the White House, solidifying his status as one of the most polarizing and influential figures in modern politics.
Harris, who rose to national prominence as a trailblazing attorney general and U.S. senator from California, has faced significant criticism over her tenure as vice president. Her presidential campaign was marked by lackluster polling and internal discord, culminating in her withdrawal from the race before the Iowa caucuses.
Trump’s comments highlight the enduring scrutiny surrounding Harris’ political career, even as she continues to serve as vice president. Whether her campaign shortcomings will serve as a cautionary tale or a springboard for reinvention remains to be seen.
For Trump, the message was clear: political survival demands adaptability and relentless outreach—a formula he continues to master with striking precision.
