Heroic Actor Takes Action as Wildfire Devastates Neighborhood (Video)

A fast-moving wildfire tore through Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, forcing tens of thousands to flee the affluent Los Angeles neighborhood. Among the chaos, actor Steve Guttenberg emerged as an unexpected hero.

As fierce Santa Ana winds fueled flames across 1,262 acres, Guttenberg was seen on Palisades Drive helping move abandoned vehicles. These cars had clogged evacuation routes, creating gridlock as residents desperately tried to escape. “I live right up the hill,” Guttenberg told KTLA reporters. “There are families, pets, and people who need help.”

The wildfire erupted early Tuesday amid a “life-threatening” windstorm, with gusts reaching up to 100 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The winds, described as the most severe since 2011, made firefighting efforts treacherous.

“This fire’s speed and intensity are unlike anything we’ve faced in years,” Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said at a press briefing. So far, 30,000 people have been evacuated, and over 13,000 structures have been destroyed. Remarkably, no casualties have been reported.

James Woods, another actor and local resident, shared images from his security cameras on social media. “We were blessed to have LA fire and police departments doing their jobs so well. We are safe and out,” he posted.

Pacific Palisades, known for its high-profile residents like Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon, became a battleground against the elements. Guttenberg’s hands-on efforts exemplified the communal spirit.

“It’s really important for people to band together,” he said. “Don’t worry about your personal property—just get out.”

Honorary mayor Eugene Levy evacuated early. “The smoke was dark and suffocating,” he told the Los Angeles Times. Meanwhile, major Hollywood events, including the premieres of Unstoppable and Wolf Man, were canceled. “Safety is our priority,” Amazon MGM stated regarding the canceled Unstoppable event.

Wildfires are a recurring nightmare for Southern California. The Santa Ana winds—dry, warm air descending from the mountains—are infamous for turning small fires into infernos. CalFire’s latest updates show Pacific Palisades remains at high risk due to the ongoing windstorm.

Amid the devastation, Guttenberg’s actions reminded many of the power of individual efforts. “Steve showed us that even in chaos, people can make a difference,” said local resident Maria Vega, who credited him with clearing her path to safety.

As the firefight continues, officials urge residents to heed evacuation orders. “Your life is more valuable than anything you leave behind,” Crowley emphasized.

This disaster underscores the resilience of a community—and the unexpected heroes who rise in its defense.
