Pardoned Jan. 6 Rioter Killed During Traffic Stop

Matthew Huttle, a 42-year-old Indiana man previously pardoned by former President Donald Trump for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot, was fatally shot by law enforcement during a traffic stop on Sunday.

According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. in Jasper County. A deputy from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop involving Huttle, who was reportedly armed.

“During the arrest attempt, Mr. Huttle resisted, and the situation escalated, resulting in the use of lethal force,” a spokesperson for the department stated. Further details regarding the confrontation are still under investigation.

Background: A Troubled History

In 2023, Huttle was sentenced to six months in federal prison and one year of supervised release after participating in the January 6 riot. Court records indicate he was inside the Capitol for 16 minutes, during which he was part of the mob breaching the building.

Huttle was one of several rioters granted clemency by President Trump, who described those involved in the Capitol attack as “patriots.” Critics argue these pardons emboldened individuals like Huttle, complicating their reintegration into society.

Huttle’s uncle, Dale Huttle, was also arrested for his involvement in the riot. Both faced 12 federal charges, including entering restricted grounds and engaging in disruptive conduct. Speaking to reporters after their sentencing, Dale Huttle said defiantly, “I have no regrets. I will not say I’m sorry.”

Family, Friends React

Friends described Matthew Huttle as a loyal Trump supporter who struggled to find steady work after his release from prison. “He believed he was fighting for the country,” one friend, who asked to remain anonymous, told local reporters.

Critics of the January 6 pardons say the situation underscores the risks of politicizing justice. “This tragedy highlights the long-term impact of failing to hold people accountable,” said former FBI agent Mark Lyle.

As investigations continue, the incident reignites debates about law enforcement practices, Second Amendment rights, and the broader consequences of political polarization.

  1. Why do you call him a rioter? Trump people were victims of a “coup” against them. Falsely arrested as the truth is being covered up by the scum Biden administration using the set up to cover up their Election Steal. 2 cops murdered 2 supporters that day. This man probably resisted arrest because he knew how it went before if you are a decent citizen in America under the Nudrn remaining g cops. No way should this man be dead! If he weren’t a Trump supporter he would be alive, wouldn’t he?

  2. One way or another, they always get you. Uncle Sam, doesn’t forgive and forget.

  3. What was it that the GESTAPO always said? Oh yes, shot while trying to escape (and always in the back). I wonder what political party the deputy who shot him belongs to.

  4. I hope this incident is investigated objectively and transparently, and without prejudice. Just because he was a “J6er” who “faced 12 charges” does not mean he was convicted. This clearly needs to be thoroughly investigated. What really happened on January 6 and on Sunday?

  5. It has to be ask. Why was he stopped ? Did the officer stop him because of political views and the fact that he was a J6’er ? Unfortunately there are a lot of corrupt policemen out there. A lot of unhinged liberals that are happen to misuse their power to harm others.
