The liberal media is under fire again—this time for allegedly cleaning up Vice President Kamala Harris’ infamous “word salad” responses to make her sound competent. CBS’ “60 Minutes” is now at the center of an FCC probe over whether it deliberately cut down a meandering, 179-word answer from Harris to a mere 20 words, shielding her from public embarrassment.
Donald Trump’s appointed FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, confirmed Wednesday that his agency is launching an investigation into CBS for potential election interference. This follows complaints that the network edited Harris’ answers in a way that “misled viewers” about her coherence during a critical discussion on Israel’s war with Hamas.
“The American people deserve the truth, not carefully curated soundbites designed to protect politicians,” Carr stated. “We will not tolerate media manipulation in an election year.”
The FCC secured full transcripts and video footage of the interview after CBS resisted turning them over. According to sources inside the network, the edits were not just for time constraints but to avoid exposing Harris’ habitual incoherence.
During the Oct. 7 interview—coincidentally airing on the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ brutal massacre of over 1,200 Israelis—Harris was asked how the U.S. plans to prevent the war from escalating. Her full response was a convoluted mix of generalities and contradictions:
“Well, let’s start with October 7th. Because obviously, what we do now must be in the context of what has happened. And as I reflect on a year ago, and that 1,200 people were massacred, young people at a festival, at a music festival, 250 hostages were taken, including Americans, women were brutally raped,” Harris began, before launching into a wandering statement about ceasefires and humanitarian aid.
CBS whittled this down to a more digestible 56-word statement, removing the hedging and repetitive phrasing. The most egregious edit, however, came when Harris was asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “charting his own course” despite Biden’s opposition. CBS aired only 20 words:
“The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles.”
The full transcript, however, reveals Harris gave a staggering 179-word response filled with vague diplomatic jargon and contradictions, leaving viewers with no clear understanding of her position.
President Trump has wasted no time responding. He has launched a massive $10 billion lawsuit against CBS, accusing the network of “blatant election interference.” Sources close to Trump say he is prepared to go all the way to the Supreme Court to hold the media accountable.
“This is the biggest cover-up in media history,” Trump said during a rally in Florida. “They don’t want you to see the real Kamala Harris because they know she’s a disaster.”
CBS insists it did nothing wrong, claiming that the edits were “standard practice” for clarity and brevity. However, the network’s already troubled future could be at risk. If the FCC finds CBS guilty of news distortion, it could jeopardize Paramount’s pending $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. Hearings are set for March 7, and a final ruling is expected by March 24.
Meanwhile, insiders report that CBS executives are in a panic, with some fearing that Trump’s lawsuit could financially cripple the company. “This is a nightmare scenario for CBS,” an anonymous producer admitted. “The last thing we need is a drawn-out legal battle with Trump while trying to close a merger.”
The investigation into CBS’ editing practices could set a major precedent in how legacy media is held accountable. The American people have a right to unfiltered news, not narratives shaped to benefit one political party. As Trump pushes forward with his lawsuit and the FCC intensifies its probe, CBS—and the entire mainstream media—may soon face a reckoning.
