Millions in Social Security Database Listed as 100+ Years Old?

Tech billionaire and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk is raising eyebrows with his latest revelation about the Social Security system. In a viral post, Musk claimed that millions of individuals in the Social Security Administration (SSA) database are listed as being over 100 years old—with their “death field” marked as false.

“According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE! Maybe Twilight is real and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security,” Musk posted, jokingly referencing the famed vampire franchise.

But the numbers behind Musk’s claim are staggering. A chart he shared suggests that over 20 million people in the system are aged 100 or older. Among them:

  • 3.9 million are reportedly between 130-139 years old.
  • 3.5 million are listed as being 140-149 years old.
  • 1.3 million appear in the 150-159 age range.

Even more shockingly, Musk alleges that at least one individual is recorded as being between 360 and 369 years old.

A Broken System?

The Social Security Administration has yet to issue a formal response to Musk’s claims. However, past government reports have highlighted serious flaws in record-keeping. In 2015, a Social Security Inspector General report found over 6.5 million active Social Security numbers linked to individuals who were listed as over 112 years old. Given that only a handful of supercentenarians exist worldwide, this discrepancy raises serious concerns about fraud and administrative oversight.

Musk did not mince words about what he believes is happening: “The logic flow diagram for the Social Security system looks INSANE. No one person actually knows how it works. The payment files that move between Social Security and Treasury have significant inconsistencies that are not reconciled. It’s wild.”

Potential for Fraud

Musk’s comments fuel long-standing suspicions about misuse of Social Security funds. With the SSA overseeing nearly $1.4 trillion in annual payments, even a small percentage of fraudulent claims could mean billions of dollars in wasted taxpayer money.

“There are FAR more ‘eligible’ Social Security numbers than there are citizens in the USA. This might be the biggest fraud in history,” Musk warned.

Government Response?

In response to growing concerns, the Treasury Department recently recouped $31 million in improper payments made to deceased individuals. However, critics argue that this is a drop in the bucket compared to the potential scope of the problem.

As calls for reform grow louder, Musk’s involvement in government oversight is set to expand. President Donald Trump recently appointed him to spearhead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, tasked with rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse across federal agencies.

Musk’s latest findings could add fuel to an already heated debate about government accountability and the need for major Social Security reforms. Whether Washington takes action, however, remains to be seen.

  1. It seems obvious: rampant fraud. An old person dies, the kids let the direct deposits continue. And we wonder why the system is running out of money? And don’t forget the illegal aliens who retired back to Mexico and applied for U.S. Social Security under the “honor system” to claim their work–at the U.S. Social Security office the “W” Bush established in Mexico City!

  2. Been telling you this for years. The latins in the social security system sell dead people social security number.

  3. Our welfare system has to be gone thru. They should be finger printed. I know people who are getting 1500 just for food. That doesn’t included just welfare. My cousin had her kids on welfare till they pass away. The system is corrupted.
