GOP Rep. Silenced Over ‘Offensive’ Sticker as Democrats Push Sweeping Gun Ban

“No Constitution Allowed?” Republican Slams Colorado House for Muzzling Pro-2A Message

In a moment that has Second Amendment supporters fired up, Colorado Republican Rep. Ken DeGraaf was forced to cover up a small sticker on his laptop—because it dared to reference the Constitution.

The sticker read simply: “Shall not be infringed – 2A.” According to Democrat leaders in the Colorado House, that was “offensive.”

“I was told I had to cover it,” DeGraaf told colleagues on the House floor. “They couldn’t stand my sticker. Apparently, the Constitution offends them now.”

The incident happened as Democrats pushed forward one of the most aggressive gun control bills in the nation—Senate Bill 25-003. The bill aims to ban a wide range of semiautomatic firearms, including popular models like the AR-15, based solely on cosmetic features and magazine capacity.

A State Divided Over Gun Rights

DeGraaf’s pushback came during debate on the bill, which has already passed the Democrat-controlled Senate and is heading for a final vote in the House next week.

“This isn’t just about a sticker,” DeGraaf said later in a statement to local reporters. “It’s about silencing anyone who doesn’t toe the left-wing line. They’re not just targeting guns—they’re targeting ideas.”

Democrats claim the legislation is about public safety.

“Preventing gun violence is one of the most effective ways to save lives,” said Rep. Meg Froelich, one of the lead sponsors. “This bill ensures buyers meet training requirements and pass background checks before accessing the most lethal weapons available.”

But critics say the bill is nothing more than a backdoor gun grab that violates both the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. And the sticker controversy has become a symbol of something bigger: a deep cultural divide.

A Sticker Sparks a Firestorm

The laptop sticker, displayed while DeGraaf sat in what’s known as the “well” of the House chamber, prompted immediate backlash from Democrat leadership. He was ordered to cover it, reportedly because of a House rule banning “displays.”

DeGraaf didn’t let that go unchallenged.

“So no displays of the Constitution are allowed in the well?” he said sarcastically. “Got it.”

When reached for comment, one Republican aide called the move “petty censorship.”

“They wouldn’t have said a word if it was a rainbow flag or a BLM logo,” the aide added. “But the Second Amendment? That’s where they draw the line.”

National Reactions Heating Up

The controversy has already begun making waves outside Colorado.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a vocal defender of gun rights, blasted the trend of progressive states clamping down on lawful gun ownership and constitutional expression.

“Blue states are dead set on disarming law-abiding Americans,” DeSantis said during a recent rally. “And now they want to shame you for even talking about your rights.”

Senate Bill 25-003 would make Colorado one of the most restrictive states for gun owners—joining the ranks of California and New York in pushing so-called “assault weapon” bans based largely on firearm appearance and attachments like pistol grips or adjustable stocks.

A Constitutional Flashpoint

Opponents warn that this is only the beginning. If a sticker quoting the Constitution can be labeled “offensive,” what’s next?

DeGraaf says he’s not backing down.

“This sticker represents more than just a belief—it represents a right,” he said. “And if that offends the Left, that’s their problem. I won’t be silenced.”

The final House vote is expected within days. Republicans are urging Coloradans to speak out before it’s too late.

“You don’t have to own a gun to support the Constitution,” DeGraaf added. “But if we let them take one right, the rest will follow.”

  1. It’s a shame what immigrants from California have done to Colorado. We’ve vacationed there in the past, but recently we’ve left them off our list of destinations. Now they’ll be a no go for good. It will just cause us to go through Wyoming to get to Utah. Better route anyway.
