President Donald Trump came out swinging Sunday night, torching George Clooney’s appearance on 60 Minutes as nothing more than a “puff piece” for a “second-rate movie star” who’s now dabbling in political damage control.
The Hollywood liberal turned stage actor sat down with CBS to promote his Broadway debut — a play where he portrays Cold War-era journalist Edward R. Murrow. But the interview quickly turned into what Trump called “one more pathetic Hollywood lecture.”
Trump: ‘Clooney’s a Fraud, Just Like 60 Minutes’
“Why would the now totally discredited 60 Minutes be giving airtime to George Clooney?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He’s a second-rate movie star and a failed political pundit. Another puppet of the Obama crowd.”
Trump didn’t hold back, blasting Clooney for throwing Joe Biden under the bus after championing him for years.
“He fought hard for Sleepy Joe,” Trump said. “Then, right after the debate, he dumped him like a dog. And just like that, started pushing for Kamala – another disaster.”
Hollywood Flip-Flop
Clooney, 63, made headlines last year when he co-hosted a glitzy L.A. fundraiser with Barack Obama and Julia Roberts that raked in millions for Biden. But after witnessing the President firsthand, Clooney changed his tune.
“I had seen the President up close,” Clooney told interviewer Jon Wertheim. “And I was surprised.”
He claimed he wrote a New York Times op-ed calling for Biden to step aside because “I was raised to tell the truth,” referring to his father, former news anchor Nick Clooney.
But critics see it differently.
“This is classic Hollywood hypocrisy,” conservative commentator Mark Levin said Monday. “They back Biden when it’s trendy, then run for cover when things fall apart. These people are not patriots — they’re performers.”
Weaponizing the Media? Trump Says Yes
Clooney also suggested Trump is using the government to intimidate the press. He pointed to a recent $16 million ABC News settlement and Trump’s ongoing $20 billion lawsuit against CBS.
“We’re seeing this idea of using government to scare or fine journalists,” Clooney said. “That’s dangerous.”
But Trump fired back, accusing the networks — and Clooney — of lying to the American people.
“60 Minutes even fraudulently inserted fake answers into Kamala Harris’s interview before Election Day,” Trump wrote. “One of the most dishonest events in broadcast history.”
The Real Drama Isn’t on Broadway
Clooney’s play, Good Night and Good Luck, tells the story of Murrow’s stand against McCarthyism — a tale Clooney says reflects today’s political climate.
“When the other three estates fail, the fourth estate has to succeed,” Clooney claimed.
But Trump and many Americans don’t see today’s press as heroic.
“The real media is no longer in New York or L.A.,” said Trump supporter and Iowa farmer Jim Lawson. “It’s in podcasts, blogs, Truth Social — anywhere but the mainstream. Clooney’s preaching to a crowd that’s tuned out.”
Trump’s Final Word: ‘Stick to Acting, George — Oh Wait, That Didn’t Work Either’
This isn’t Trump’s first jab at Clooney. After the actor’s op-ed ran last year, Trump mocked him as a “fake movie actor” who “never came close to making a great movie.”
“What does Clooney know about anything?” Trump asked again this week. “Movies didn’t work. Politics didn’t work. Maybe it’s time for him to go back to TV — or just stay off the screen altogether.”
As the 2024 election looms, the rift between Hollywood elites and Trump’s America looks wider than ever — and judging by the reaction online, Clooney might have underestimated how little Middle America cares about what another rich actor thinks.

That’s what you’re good for Donald Trump: name calling!!
Fraudulent business man can’t handle the truth. Wouldn’t know it if it bit him in the a$$. This will be the longest four years of our lives, if we can survive it.
Could not agree more with President Donald Trump about his comments of the misguided George Clooney…a very minor player. For sure he is not correctly educated. He couldn’t explain the difference from a statute and or enforcement regulation at law. This Hollywood light weight or feather weight should be blocked from making such stupid statements. This fake movie star and wannabe intellectual should not have the media publishing his stupidity. ” Rosemary wouldn’t be proud of him either. “
