While Katy Perry was blasting off into space with a star-studded, all-female crew, the family of a disabled veteran she’s locked in a bitter legal fight with wasn’t exactly celebrating the moment.
The pop star, 40, took part in Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin NS-31 mission on April 14, alongside Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe, and Kerianne Flynn. The historic, all-female flight lasted around 11 minutes and marked a major personal milestone for Perry—watched from the ground by her 4-year-old daughter Daisy, who cheered “Mama!” in a tiny astronaut suit.
But not everyone was inspired by the launch. Chart Westcott, son of 85-year-old veteran Carl Westcott, told The Post he hopes Perry’s trip brings her some perspective—especially ahead of their court battle scheduled for August.
“Katy Perry says she felt ‘super connected to love’ after her trip to space,” he said. “I can’t help but wonder if her experience will make her more compassionate to elderly disabled veterans like my father.”
Carl Westcott, who lives with Huntington’s disease and is bedridden, sold his $15 million mansion to Perry in 2020, but tried to back out of the deal days later, claiming he was heavily medicated following surgery and not mentally fit to make the sale. Perry’s team pushed forward, and in November 2023, a judge ruled she was the legal owner of the home.
Still, the drama didn’t end there. Perry countered by suing Westcott for damages, claiming she lost rental income because of the legal dispute. The case was originally set for February but delayed due to Carl’s declining health. The new trial date is set for August 21.
Carl’s family has accused Perry of showing little compassion during the ordeal, especially as his health continues to deteriorate.
Meanwhile, Perry appears to be riding high—literally and figuratively. She brought a daisy flower onboard the rocket as a tribute to her daughter and later called the journey “second to being a mom.”
“It was hard for me to go because that’s all my love right there,” she said after landing. “I wanted to model courage, worthiness, and fearlessness.”
Each crew member wore custom suits with symbols representing their careers. Perry had a firework embroidered by her name, referencing her chart-topping hit. Sánchez, Bezos’ fiancée, included a fly from her children’s book. King had a microphone stitched onto hers.
