Famous Couple “Miss America” After Fleeing to Spain Over Trump

Richard Gere may have stormed off the American stage after Donald Trump’s win, but now it seems he and his wife are singing a different tune.

The Hollywood liberal power couple famously sold off their Connecticut estate and whisked their young family off to Madrid, Spain, not long after Trump stunned the political world by defeating Hillary Clinton. Gere had labeled Trump a “bully” and “thug,” even using award show podiums overseas to hurl criticism at the president.

But now, in a surprising twist, his wife Alejandra Silva has admitted they “miss the U.S.” and have plans to return.

“We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp,” Silva recently told The Daily Mail. “We just have to balance our lives there and here… But I miss the US.”

While the couple has maintained the move wasn’t purely political, the timing said plenty. Gere, 75, has long used his platform to slam conservative leaders, accusing Trump of leading the country into a “very dark place.” Yet after years of European living, it appears the sparkle of sunny Spain may be losing its shine.

Sources close to Gere paint a picture of a man fully embracing retirement-mode. “He’s gone from American Gigolo to American jiggle-o,” a source told RadarOnline. “He’s gained weight, he’s drinking his own wine, eating churros daily, and just relaxing. He’s not worried about the Hollywood grind anymore.”

Still, even with the good food and relaxed lifestyle, there’s something pulling them back stateside.

The nostalgia for American life comes as other Hollywood names, like Rosie O’Donnell, also followed through on promises to leave the U.S. after Trump’s win — O’Donnell now lives in Ireland, reportedly seeking a more LGBT-friendly environment for her family.

Gere’s departure was never framed as a bold political protest, at least not publicly. But the actor didn’t hold back when asked about American leadership. “We have a thug in the White House,” he once told a Spanish crowd while accepting an international film award.

Now, after years abroad, Silva says they “always planned to come back.” It’s a far cry from the urgent escape they once made. According to those close to the family, it’s not just camp schedules or family obligations luring them back — it’s a longing for the place they once publicly distanced themselves from.

“Richard still loves America,” a friend claims. “He just didn’t love what it had become under Trump. Maybe now he sees it differently — or maybe he just misses his old ranch.”

In the end, it seems even the most outspoken critics can’t quite quit the U.S.

And with Trump dominating headlines once again as the 2024 race looms, don’t be surprised if more Hollywood expats start drifting back — or loudly plotting another exit.
