Young Politician Vanishes Without a Trace in New York, Family Pleads for Answers

A young Democratic candidate in New York has mysteriously disappeared, sparking urgent concern from both law enforcement and family members.

Petros Krommidas, 29, was last seen on the night of April 23 in Baldwin, Long Island. The Nassau County Police Department said he was wearing a camouflage hoodie and gray sweatpants. He has not been heard from since.

“He just vanished,” said a family friend who asked to remain anonymous. “No one knows where he went, and it’s completely out of character.”

Krommidas had spoken two days earlier at a gathering of the Nassau County Young Democrats. On Facebook, he posted a smiling photo from the April 21 event, writing, “Always great to be with such a thoughtful, engaged group.”

The timeline since then is chilling.

On April 22, Krommidas posted online about the event.
On April 23 at 9 p.m., he was seen for the last time.
On April 24 at 7:35 p.m., his family officially reported him missing.

His sister, Eleni, shared a desperate plea on Facebook: “My brother is missing and we are deeply worried. Please share and help us bring Petros home.”

Police believe he could be somewhere in the Long Beach area, but so far, no confirmed sightings have been reported. Search efforts are ongoing.

Krommidas is 6’2″, weighs 230 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Nassau County Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs issued a statement, praising Krommidas as “a bright, driven young man who represents the very best of our next generation.”

Critics, however, point out that Democratic candidates in Nassau County have faced growing public distrust amid concerns about rising crime and mismanagement. Some on social media are questioning whether Krommidas’ political work could have made him a target.

A Columbia University graduate, Krommidas once seemed destined for Wall Street success. He rowed for Columbia’s team, earned dual degrees in American history and business management, and entered the finance world after college. But by 2024, he made an abrupt pivot into politics, becoming a Democratic Party field organizer.

His run for Nassau County’s 4th District legislature seat, a historically affluent area, was seen as ambitious. Many wondered whether a rookie progressive candidate could connect with the district’s traditional voters.

“Petros had the Ivy League background but not the street sense you need in Nassau County politics,” said one local GOP strategist.

As the search drags on, fears are mounting.

“Time is critical,” a Nassau police spokesman said. “We urge anyone who saw anything to come forward immediately.”

Family and friends are now clinging to hope and praying for his safe return.

“We need him home,” Eleni Krommidas said in her emotional post. “Please, keep looking.”

The Nassau County Police Department declined to comment further Monday morning.
