Meghan Markle is under fire again, and this time, it’s not just from British tabloids—America’s own The View is calling her out. The Duchess of Sussex is being slammed for signing a gift to a friend with the title “Her Royal Highness,” despite publicly agreeing years ago to stop using it after stepping back from royal duties.

The controversy ignited during Tuesday’s episode when conservative-leaning co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin didn’t hold back.

“I find it a little cringe to give a gift to a close friend and sign it, ‘Her Royal Highness,’” Griffin said. “It’s like she’s playing pretend royalty from a California mansion.”

Griffin, a former Trump White House official, wasn’t alone. Co-host Sara Haines chimed in, saying, “It’s kind of like calling your old college roommate ‘Doctor’ every time you talk. I would never refer to myself as ‘Her Royal Highness.’ It’s weird.”

And weird is putting it lightly. Meghan, who along with Prince Harry officially stepped back from the royal family in 2020, reportedly sent entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima a basket of homemade strawberry jam—complete with a card signed, “With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

That’s right. HRH. Even after Queen Elizabeth specifically agreed the couple could keep the titles but could not use them in any official capacity.

Now, Meghan’s signature is reigniting fury on both sides of the Atlantic.

According to The Daily Beast, Prince William is livid. Sources close to the future king say he’s itching to permanently strip Meghan and Harry of their remaining royal honors.

“There is no way King William will stand for this,” an insider told the outlet. “The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”

Another former palace aide was even more blunt.

“William loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body. He believes they’ve betrayed everything the monarchy stands for,” the source said. “The idea that they’re still using royal status as a calling card will enrage him.”

This latest stunt from Meghan comes on the heels of her much-hyped rebrand into American lifestyle influencer, but critics say the duchess still wants the perks of palace life without the responsibility.

And for many Republican-leaning Americans, it’s further proof that Markle’s obsession with status—and hypocrisy—knows no borders.

While Griffin noted the whole situation feels “petty,” she added a dose of realism:

“There are no heroes here. But come on—if you want to be a private citizen, act like one.”

The Sussexes continue to court controversy as they balance royal titles with media deals and brand-building. But as this latest drama shows, no amount of jam and handwritten cards can cover up the awkward truth: Meghan Markle wants to leave the monarchy behind—except when it suits her image.
