The Trump administration is sounding the alarm: Iran may be closer than ever to building a nuclear weapon — and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says time is running out.
In a no-holds-barred interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Rubio declared Iran “too close for comfort” to nuclear breakout. “They’re right there at the finish line,” Rubio warned. “This is the most dangerous point we’ve seen in years.”
Rubio’s Stark Warning from Turkey
Speaking from Antalya during a high-stakes trip through the region, Rubio didn’t mince words.
“They’ve enriched uranium to 60 percent. That’s basically 90 percent of the way to weapons-grade,” he said. “And they’re flaunting it.”
Rubio noted that Tehran now has missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and with no serious inspections in place, the regime’s true capabilities are unclear. “Iran isn’t hiding it anymore,” he added. “They’re emboldened because they’ve seen weakness from the international community.”
Rubio also pointed the finger at past Democratic leadership. “This is what happens when you bankroll terrorists and call it diplomacy,” he said, taking aim at the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which President Trump tore up during his first term.
Trump Speaks Out in UAE: “It Will Be Taken Care Of”
President Donald Trump, fresh off a powerful tour through the Middle East, addressed the Iran threat before departing Abu Dhabi.
“We have an Iran situation,” Trump told reporters. “And one way or the other, we’re going to take care of it. It’ll be taken care of 100 percent. Done nicely or not nicely — and not nicely is not good for them.”
Trump’s message was clear: America is back, and there will be no patience for terror states pursuing nukes.
Iran Pushes Back – But Doubts Remain
Meanwhile, Iranian leaders are playing the familiar card — claiming their nuclear ambitions are “peaceful.”
“Iran will never pursue nuclear weapons,” said Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during a trip to Indonesia. “But using nuclear capacity is our right.”
Analysts aren’t buying it.
“They’ve said that before — and still kept enriching,” said a U.S. intelligence official off the record. “Peaceful intentions don’t come with missile upgrades.”
Why This Matters: Legacy and Leverage
Retired Army Colonel Seth Krummrich told Newsweek that this is a defining moment for Trump’s second term.
“The Middle East is where Trump will carve his legacy,” said Krummrich, now Vice President at Global Guardian. “Iran is testing him. I expect a firm, unmistakable response.”
Rubio echoed that sentiment. “We’re still open to talks. But if diplomacy fails, we have other tools. And we will use them.”
The Road Ahead
A fifth round of nuclear talks is reportedly set to begin, but optimism is scarce. With Iran pushing its enrichment levels and boasting of missile strength, many believe time for negotiations is nearly out.
“We’re watching this closely,” Rubio concluded. “But the message is simple: If Iran crosses the line, they won’t like what’s waiting on the other side.”
Bottom Line: Iran’s nuclear brinkmanship has entered a dangerous new phase — and the Trump administration isn’t bluffing. The clock is ticking.
