Zelensky Assassination Plot Foiled in Shocking International Sting

A high-stakes assassination attempt targeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been foiled, according to Ukrainian intelligence — and the details read like something straight out of a Cold War thriller.

Ukrainian authorities say the would-be assassin was not a Russian soldier, but a Polish retiree who had been recruited by Soviet agents decades ago and allegedly reactivated by Moscow for a deadly new mission. The chilling plan? Eliminate Zelensky at Poland’s Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport using either a sniper rifle or a drone.

“Russia is desperate and dangerous,” declared Lieutenant General Vasyl Malyuk, chief of Ukraine’s SBU security service, in a closed-door briefing with local journalists. “They are weaponizing history, ideology, and foreign nationals to destabilize Ukraine and threaten our leadership.”

Polish and Ukrainian security services worked together to track and neutralize the suspect before he could strike. The man, authorities say, had remained loyal to Soviet beliefs even after the Iron Curtain fell — a reminder, experts warn, of the deep ideological scars still lingering in Eastern Europe.

“He is an example of the old Soviet networks that Moscow can tap into at any time,” explained former CIA officer Mark Tolson, speaking to The Daily Signal. “That should make every American nervous about just how far Russian influence still reaches.”

This latest attempt on Zelensky’s life comes after years of similar plots. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the Ukrainian president claims he’s lost track of how many times he’s dodged death. In one high-profile case last year, two Ukrainian security officers were caught leaking secrets to Russia as part of a plan to kill Zelensky and other top officials.

Ukrainian officials say the threat is relentless. “Every day, there is a new danger,” Zelensky said in a televised interview earlier this spring. “But we keep moving forward. We will not be intimidated.”

Bloodshed and Blame: Ukraine War Rages On

The foiled plot is just the latest chapter in a bloody conflict that has left Ukraine’s cities battered and its people on edge. Overnight, Russian drones and missiles killed at least 14 civilians across Ukraine, with nine dying in Kyiv when an apartment block collapsed under attack.

Local officials are calling it a war on civilians. “These are not military targets — these are homes, schools, hospitals,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. “It’s terror, pure and simple.”

Despite President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, peace remains elusive. Trump — who has publicly criticized endless American involvement in foreign wars — has reportedly been “deeply frustrated” by the lack of progress.

“The American people are tired of footing the bill for Europe’s wars,” said Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR). “We need accountability, and we need results.”

Meanwhile, Russia’s military is ramping up a new summer offensive, but U.S. analysts say Moscow’s gains are minimal and rely heavily on poorly trained recruits. The Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukrainian forces have blunted many Russian advances using drone technology — much of it supplied by Western allies.

In a dramatic twist, President Zelensky claimed that North Korean missiles were used in the latest strike on Kyiv. “Russia, North Korea, and Iran — it’s a coalition of murderers,” he said. “The world must respond.”

Trump’s Attention Shifts to the Middle East

While the war drags on, President Trump has shifted his focus to the Middle East, recently ordering strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities after a flare-up between Israel and Iran. The move, intended to send a message to Tehran, has drawn sharp criticism from some European leaders — but Trump remains resolute.

“We will not allow Iran to threaten Israel or American interests,” the president stated. “America leads from strength, not weakness.”

With Ukraine still locked in a deadly struggle and Russian plots reaching across borders, the world feels increasingly unstable. But as one senior U.S. official told Fox News, “America stands with our allies — but our priority is American security.”

As this global chess match continues, one thing is clear: the enemies of the West are not giving up — and neither should we.
