FBI Accused of Burying Bombshell China Interference in 2020 Election

In a stunning move that’s sending shockwaves through Washington, newly declassified FBI emails suggest that America’s top domestic intelligence agency may have deliberately buried critical intelligence about alleged Chinese meddling in the 2020 presidential election — all to shield its own leadership from public scrutiny.

Senator Chuck Grassley, the no-nonsense Iowa Republican and current chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released a trove of internal FBI communications this week, calling the bureau under Director Christopher Wray a “deeply broken institution.”

“These records reek of political cover-ups,” Grassley said. “The Wray-led FBI chose politics over national security at a time when the country was vulnerable and divided. That’s unacceptable.”

The Explosive Allegations

The declassified emails — originally unearthed by FBI Director Kash Patel in mid-June and shared with top Republicans — detail how the bureau allegedly ignored an intelligence report from its Albany Field Office in the final weeks before the 2020 election. That report, dated September 25, 2020, warned of potential Chinese government efforts to influence the outcome — including producing tens of thousands of fake driver’s licenses to be used for fraudulent mail-in voting in favor of Joe Biden.

Even more damning: the source of the intelligence was described internally by FBI officials as “competent” and rated 9 out of 10 on credibility. But instead of triggering an immediate nationwide investigation, the FBI shut it down — and locked out other field offices and intelligence partners from even reviewing it.

Why? According to the emails: “The reporting will contradict Director Wray’s testimony.”

Damage Control at the Highest Levels

At the time, Wray was already facing heat from Republican lawmakers over the FBI’s handling of election security. Just one day before the Albany report was filed, Wray testified under oath that there was “no coordinated national voter fraud effort.” Grassley’s office says the bureau feared that new intelligence would “undermine Wray’s sworn statements” and further erode public trust in the FBI.

Instead of owning the truth, Grassley argues, the agency chose optics.

“This was never about partisanship — it was about the integrity of the process,” Grassley said. “Whether the allegations were true or not, it was the FBI’s job to investigate them thoroughly, not sweep them under the rug.”

Clare Slattery, a spokesperson for Grassley, emphasized that the senator isn’t claiming the allegations swayed the election — only that the FBI failed its duty.

“This isn’t about overturning results,” she said. “This is about accountability. The American people deserve to know why legitimate leads weren’t followed.”

A Systemic Breakdown?

The implications go far beyond one election cycle. Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and current FBI Deputy Director, acknowledged public frustration in a post on X.

“We get it. Trust is broken. That’s why we’ve started releasing thousands of pages of our counterintelligence files,” Bongino wrote. “This won’t be fixed overnight — but transparency is step one.”

Critics aren’t convinced that’s enough.

“It’s clear the FBI lost its way under Wray,” said Mark Meadows, former Trump Chief of Staff, speaking on Newsmax. “It’s time for a full top-to-bottom purge. If the Deep State can’t stay out of elections, it doesn’t belong in our government.”

What Comes Next?

So far, no new hearings have been announced. But insiders on Capitol Hill say Grassley and allies like Senator JD Vance are pushing for public testimony from Wray, FBI leadership, and potentially the whistleblowers behind the suppressed report.

With election season heating up again, Republican lawmakers are warning that the 2020 failure cannot be repeated in 2024 — or 2028.

“The American people need to know someone’s watching the watchers,” Grassley said.

One thing’s clear: the spotlight is now burning bright on the FBI, and this isn’t going away anytime soon.
