A Georgia family is grieving a heartbreaking loss after a 76-year-old grandmother was killed in a violent crash just moments after leaving her newborn grandson’s side.
Nancy Lee Veasy had just wrapped up a special visit with her 1-month-old grandson—the first of many she was looking forward to—when tragedy struck. According to her family, Nancy “never put the baby down” during the visit, cradling him lovingly the entire time.
“She wanted to hold them babies. Anybody’s baby,” said Cloys Veasy, her husband of over 50 years. “She was all heart.”
Nancy was heading home on the afternoon of July 25, driving down Fulton Industrial Boulevard in South Fulton, Georgia, when a truck reportedly barreled across the median and slammed into her vehicle. The crash happened just after 4 p.m., and by the time emergency responders arrived, Nancy and another driver were already dead.
Her son, Japhet Veasy, had been following her car home from the visit. What he saw next will haunt him forever.
“I ran to the car,” he said. “And I knew. I can just still see her in there.”
Witnesses say the driver of the truck was acting erratically before the crash—swerving into the median, losing control, and plowing into oncoming traffic. Photos from the scene show mangled metal and broken glass strewn across the intersection of Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Robinson Drive.
Police were seen placing the truck driver in handcuffs at the scene, but no charges have been filed yet. Authorities say they’re waiting for all the evidence to come in before determining next steps. The investigation remains open and active.
Nancy Veasy was described by her family as a joyful woman who adored her family—especially the newest addition.
“She never let go of that baby,” Japhet recalled. “Not once. That’s how much she loved.”
A funeral for Nancy is scheduled for August 11 at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, where friends and loved ones will gather to honor a life cut short far too soon.
“She gave everything to everyone,” her daughter Ameera said. “She lived for her family.”
Now, that family is left with memories—and the painful reminder that sometimes, even the most beautiful moments can end in heartbreak.
