It’s the Hollywood secret that refuses to die. And now, on the 63rd anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s shocking death, the man who conducted her autopsy is speaking out — and he says the official story doesn’t add up.
Dr. Thomas Noguchi, now 98 and once dubbed the “coroner to the stars,” has finally broken his silence. In a bombshell revelation published in LA Coroner by author Anne Soon Choi, Noguchi claims he was used as a “pawn” in a coordinated cover-up to protect the powerful men allegedly entangled in Monroe’s life — and possibly her death.
“I couldn’t prove it then,” Noguchi admits in the book, “but I was never fully convinced it was suicide.”
On August 5, 1962, America woke to devastating news: the iconic Marilyn Monroe, just 36, had been found dead, naked, and alone in her Brentwood home, clutching a telephone. Official cause? Barbiturate overdose. Verdict? Probable suicide.
But suspicions swirled immediately. Monroe wasn’t just Hollywood royalty — she had direct ties to the highest levels of American power. Her alleged affairs with both President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, ignited rumors that she knew too much — and that she paid the price.
At just 37, Dr. Noguchi was a newly minted deputy coroner in Los Angeles County when he was handed Monroe’s autopsy. The assignment was as surreal as it was high-stakes.
“It was a clean scene,” he recalled. “Too clean.”
Noguchi noted Monroe had been prescribed Nembutal days before her death. She’d been described as “despondent,” but not suicidal. During the autopsy, he found no signs of trauma, no needle marks, and no pill residue in her stomach.
“It didn’t sit right,” he reportedly told Choi. “Fatal levels of barbiturates, yet no sign she swallowed them? That’s not normal.”
Most disturbing of all, Noguchi says he was blocked from conducting a full toxicology review. The chief toxicologist, Raymond Abernathy, dismissed the need for further testing — then destroyed Monroe’s stomach and organ samples before anything could be confirmed.
“I knew I’d be held responsible,” Noguchi said. “But I was outranked. There was nothing I could do.”
Choi writes that Noguchi’s internal alarm bells never stopped ringing. His final report labeled the death an overdose. Privately, he was haunted by doubts. And for decades, he kept quiet.
Until now.
Noguchi wasn’t the only one with suspicions. Former LAPD vice detective Fred Otash, who once planted surveillance equipment in Monroe’s home for gossip magazines, claimed he captured a violent altercation between Monroe and Robert Kennedy the night she died.
According to Otash, Monroe had confronted RFK about their alleged affair. When she became hysterical, he muffled her screams with a pillow while actor Peter Lawford looked on. What happened after that remains unknown — but Monroe was found dead the next morning.
“It was chaos,” Otash said in a previously uncovered interview. “Bobby wanted out. Marilyn wanted answers. Something went very wrong.”
Otash also claimed Monroe may have been pregnant with JFK’s baby at the time of her death — a theory bolstered by now-declassified FBI files suggesting she was being watched, wiretapped, and seen as a potential threat to national security.
Dr. Noguchi’s confession adds new fuel to a fire that’s burned for over six decades. While the official story remains suicide, growing numbers of experts and historians now believe Monroe’s death may have been an orchestrated hit — covered up at the highest levels of power.
“She wasn’t just a star,” Choi notes. “She was entangled in a web of secrets, sex, and politics that stretched from Hollywood to the White House.”
And now, the man who examined her broken body says he may have been part of that web — without even realizing it.
“I was just doing my job,” Noguchi says. “But maybe the truth was never what they wanted me to find.”
Was Marilyn Monroe silenced to protect the most powerful family in America? Or was she simply a troubled soul who fell victim to her own demons?
One thing’s certain: 63 years later, the mystery endures — and the whispers have only grown louder.
