Five U.S. soldiers are recovering after a horrifying shooting spree at Fort Stewart, Georgia — and the alleged gunman is one of their own.
U.S. Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford, 28, has been taken into custody after allegedly opening fire inside the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team’s operational area early Wednesday morning.
The attack, described by officials as a workplace shooting, sent shockwaves through one of America’s most important military installations. It marks one of the most serious internal security breaches on a U.S. base in recent years.
“The safety of our soldiers is paramount. President Trump has been briefed and is demanding swift justice,” a senior Pentagon source told this outlet.
Radford, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, was serving as an Automated Logistics Specialist. He joined the Army in January 2018 — but notably, has never been deployed overseas.
And this wasn’t his first run-in with the law.
Back in May 2025, Radford was arrested in Hinesville, Georgia for DUI and disobeying traffic signals after reportedly telling police he “ran a red light because he had to use the bathroom.”
Critics are now questioning how someone with this kind of disciplinary history remained on active duty at a major U.S. military base.
“How was this guy still in uniform? That’s the question leadership at Fort Stewart better be answering right now,” said retired Army Colonel Rick Farnham.
Authorities say Radford used a personally-owned firearm — not a government-issued weapon — to carry out the ambush.
The shooting unfolded in the early morning hours in a section of the base dedicated to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, part of the legendary 3rd Infantry Division. Soldiers in the vicinity sprang into action, subduing Radford and preventing what could have been a much deadlier massacre.
All five wounded soldiers were stabilized and transported to Winn Army Community Hospital. Their conditions have not been disclosed, but military officials say they are expected to recover.
“This could’ve been far worse,” said Brig. Gen. John Lubas during a press briefing. “Thanks to the quick action of fellow soldiers, lives were saved today.”
The shooting comes amid rising concerns over discipline and mental health inside the military ranks. Some GOP lawmakers are demanding an internal audit of military screening procedures, especially under President Trump’s renewed push to restore accountability and strength within the armed forces.
“We need to know how a man like this, with an arrest record and no combat experience, was allowed to operate around armed personnel,” said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). “This is unacceptable.”
Radford is now in pre-trial confinement and is expected to face multiple charges in military and civilian court.
DEVELOPING: President Trump is expected to address the nation Thursday regarding the attack, with sources inside the White House suggesting he may call for stricter base access controls and disciplinary reforms.

They certainly got a real life opportunity to use their newly learned hand to hand combat skills on this situation. Hurray for them.
