The panic inside MSNBC is reaching a fever pitch. Staffers are scrambling for exit routes after NBC News officially cut the far-left cable outlet loose, leaving the struggling network to sink or swim on its own.
“It feels like we’re on the Titanic,” one insider admitted. “People are dusting off résumés and sending them out as fast as they can. No one thinks this ship will stay afloat without NBC’s lifeline.”
NBC’s decision to dump MSNBC comes after months of plummeting ratings and growing concerns that the network’s relentless progressive spin had become a liability. By cutting ties, NBC made it clear it wanted to protect its core news brand from MSNBC’s reputation as a propaganda arm of the left.
“This was NBC’s way of saying: we’re done carrying your baggage,” a source told us. “They saw the nonstop woke coverage and Trump-bashing as a cancer eating away at the credibility of their entire operation.”
The move forces MSNBC into a rebranding under its new parent company, Versant, where it will relaunch as “MS NOW.” The NBC letters are gone — a deliberate effort to distance the mainstream network from the liberal cable channel.
Since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, MSNBC has been unable to find its footing. According to Nielsen data, the network’s prime-time viewership dropped 27 percent in early 2025, with the coveted 25-54 demographic collapsing by nearly 40 percent.
Even star anchor Rachel Maddow, once MSNBC’s golden goose, can’t stop the bleeding. Her protégée Jen Psaki — Biden’s former press secretary turned anchor — lost nearly half the audience after taking Maddow’s 9 p.m. slot midweek.
Joy Reid fared even worse. After Trump’s 2024 election victory, her show “The ReidOut” hemorrhaged viewers until the network finally pulled the plug in February. One insider said her $3 million salary had become “a joke” compared to her dismal ratings.
Behind the scenes, morale is cratering. “It’s chaos,” one producer confessed. “We’ve lost resources, the checks aren’t as big, and management doesn’t even try to hide the fact we’re on thin ice. People are scared — no one wants to be left holding the bag when this place goes under.”
Another staffer compared the atmosphere to a funeral: “It feels like every day we’re just waiting for someone to announce more layoffs. There’s no faith this network will survive the year.”
For decades, MSNBC billed itself as the counterweight to Fox News. But in Trump’s America, the left-leaning network’s formula of outrage and progressive sermonizing appears to have worn thin.
NBC’s decision to cut ties may go down as the final nail in the coffin. As one industry analyst put it bluntly: “MSNBC without NBC is just another flailing cable channel. The glory days are over.”

And the anchors are like those hanging over the side of a leaky boat. They’re sinking their new home, MS NOW, even as it’s being launched from the dock. A few dyed-in-the-wool left wing extremists will likely follow them over to their new, and probably temporary, home, but not in large enough numbers to justify the monetary cost of keeping it alive.
