Whoopi Goldberg is pointing fingers — and she’s aiming squarely at her own party.
On Wednesday’s episode of The View, the liberal co-host lashed out at Democrats who she says sabotaged Joe Biden’s failed presidency by publicly airing doubts about his age and mental state.
“If the Democrats had kept their mouths shut and took care of this in-house, as opposed to making it a public spectacle, I think people would have had a better feel about it,” Goldberg fumed. “But they didn’t. They made it a circus.”
Goldberg’s outburst came during a heated discussion about Kamala Harris’ newly released memoir, in which the former vice president described Biden’s decision to run for a second term as “reckless.” The book excerpt, published in The Atlantic, has already triggered a firestorm inside the fractured Democratic Party.
Harris didn’t hold back in her book, blasting Biden’s communications team for failing to protect her from relentless negative coverage. “They had a huge comms team; they had Karine Jean-Pierre briefing in the press room every day. But getting anything positive said about my work, or any defense against untrue attacks, was almost impossible,” Harris wrote.
Goldberg — a longtime Hollywood Democrat — was furious that party infighting had been put on display. “People love to go back and say what we should have done. We should have run a better campaign. We should have run a better campaign. People wanted to hear what they heard. They got what they wanted. I don’t understand why we’ve got to re-litigate it. It happened, and now we’re all sitting in it, and it’s everybody’s fault,” she said.
Co-host Joy Behar quickly turned the conversation into a gender debate, insisting the U.S. would “never elect a woman” because of sexism. But conservative voice Alyssa Farah Griffin shot back, pointing to polling that showed 75% of voters thought Biden was too old to serve another term — a clear rebuke from voters themselves.
“I don’t believe the political parties should have a say in who is a nominee and who is elected,” Griffin argued. “There’s no primary when there is a sitting president. And voters made their concerns loud and clear.”
Sunny Hostin, another liberal co-host, sided with Harris, warning that Biden’s stubbornness had put the country at risk. “Look at what we are dealing with now as a country,” Hostin said. “The stakes were too high.”
The bitter recriminations among Democrats come as President Trump cements his return to power in 2025, riding a red wave fueled by voter frustration with Biden’s failed leadership. From the border crisis to economic stagnation, Biden’s final year in office became defined by chaos, and now Democrats are tearing each other apart over who deserves the blame.
For Goldberg, the answer is simple: Democrats should have stayed quiet. For Republicans, the spectacle only underscores how deeply divided — and politically toxic — the Democratic Party has become.
As one GOP strategist quipped after watching the segment, “We don’t even have to attack the Democrats anymore. They’re doing it themselves.”
