President Trump and Melania Have Emergency Landing After Mechanical Malfunction

Marine One was forced into an unexpected emergency landing during President Donald Trump’s return trip to the United States on Thursday, after a mechanical issue forced pilots to reroute.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, a minor hydraulic problem was detected, prompting the crew to land at a local airfield before reaching Stansted Airport. “Out of an abundance of caution, the pilots landed… the president and first lady safely boarded the support helicopter,” she said.

From there, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made their way to Stansted, where they joined Air Force One for the flight back to Washington. Images captured the pair walking across the tarmac before boarding the plane.

The unscheduled landing came just hours after Trump wrapped up his second state visit to the UK. While en route home, he shared a quip with reporters traveling alongside him. “Fly safely,” Trump joked before adding, “You know why I say that? Because I’m on the flight. I want to get home, otherwise I wouldn’t care.”

The absence of Marine One was first flagged by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who was part of the press pool. The White House later confirmed the delay, citing the hydraulic issue.

The Trumps had spent the day with British leaders, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, and were hosted earlier in the week at Windsor Castle by King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate. Trump described the trip as “lovely” and praised the royal family before heading back to the U.S.
