Mother Arrested After Police Make Horrifying Discovery in Closet

A small Pennsylvania town is reeling after authorities uncovered a horrifying scene inside a modest home outside Ford City. Four infant bodies were discovered hidden in closets and the attic, wrapped in towels and plastic bags.

Police say the shocking find led to the arrest of Jessica Marie Mauthe, 39, who is now facing charges of homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and multiple counts of abuse of a corpse. She remains jailed without bail at the Armstrong County Jail.

The case began after Mauthe’s landlord, Brent Flanigan, entered the property last month to clean following her eviction for nonpayment. While going through the home, Flanigan found a black trash bag with a foul odor in a closet. Inside, he discovered what appeared to be human remains wrapped in towels.

“I’ll never forget it,” Flanigan told local reporters. “You don’t expect to find something like that. It’s something you can’t unsee.”

Shaken, he immediately called police. Investigators later searched the home and made an even grimmer discovery: three more infants concealed in the attic inside tote bags, also wrapped in towels and plastic.

Neighbors say the gruesome revelation has shaken the tight-knit community.

“Shocked. No one believed it. It’s just evil,” said Carmen Felix, who lives across the street. “The girl across from here is a nurse, and she almost didn’t go to work today. She couldn’t get this out of her head.”

Many residents described Mauthe as quiet and reserved, with no visible signs of the darkness investigators would later reveal.

Court documents paint a disturbing picture. According to the arrest affidavit, Mauthe admitted to giving birth multiple times at home and never seeking medical help.

In one chilling account, she told police that a baby born about a year ago made several noises after delivery. Instead of calling 911, she said she held the child “against her, where it remained until it stopped making noises and stopped breathing.”

In another instance, she recounted giving birth around six years earlier. She claimed the newborn whimpered before she passed out. When she awoke, she told police, the baby was beneath her and lifeless.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the infants were born alive, but autopsies are expected to provide more answers.

Mauthe faces a preliminary hearing next week. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.

For now, Ford City is left grappling with the grim reality of what was hidden in their neighborhood for years.

“It makes you wonder how something like this goes unnoticed,” Felix added. “How many people passed by that house every day and never knew?”
