The rivalry between Alabama and Georgia didn’t just play out on the field during Saturday’s Week 5 matchup — it spilled into the stands in a violent brawl that left fans stunned.
No. 17 Alabama was in Athens to face No. 5 Georgia at Sanford Stadium when three fans were caught on video fighting in the stands. The clip, which has since gone viral with more than 750,000 views, shows one man being put in a chokehold while another fan punches him from behind. Nearby spectators can be heard screaming for the fight to stop, but the chaos only escalated.

Social media users didn’t hold back after seeing the footage. “It’s not worth it. Jail time isn’t worth it for a football game,” one viewer wrote. Another suggested harsh penalties: “Arrest, expel them, drug/alcohol test them for a year, and give them 100’s of hours of community service. Make them do PSAs about fighting at sporting events.” Others blasted bystanders for filming instead of intervening.
So far, local police have not released a statement about the incident or whether arrests were made.
Meanwhile, Alabama walked away with a huge 24-21 win. Quarterback Ty Simpson threw for 276 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, snapping Georgia’s 33-game home winning streak and improving Alabama’s standing in the AP Poll to No. 10. Georgia fell to No. 12 following the loss.
The Tide will face No. 16 Vanderbilt next, while Georgia looks to bounce back against Kentucky.
