Former Vice President Kamala Harris found herself under fire once again this weekend as her nationwide book tour for 107 Days spiraled into chaos in Chicago.
What was supposed to be a calm, moderated conversation with journalist Michele Norris quickly turned heated when multiple protesters disrupted the event — shouting, filming, and accusing Harris of hypocrisy over her past record and foreign policy stances.
Security moved fast, escorting several individuals out of the auditorium as attendees chanted “get her out!” and Harris, visibly irritated, fired back, “Show some respect!”
The former vice president, 60, was midway through discussing her new memoir when a woman stood up, yelling accusations while live-streaming the confrontation on her phone. Another man shouted about “genocide” before being dragged out by guards, though his specific motivation wasn’t clear.
Norris, attempting to restore calm, told the crowd, “We encourage people to use their voices, but we want them to show respect for this woman.”
Harris smirked before responding, “And please pronounce my name correctly,” drawing applause from loyal supporters — though some on social media mocked the comment as “tone deaf” amid the commotion.
Saturday’s outburst followed a similar episode earlier in Washington, D.C., where Harris was heckled over the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel–Hamas war. When a protester shouted about Gaza, Harris jumped up and snapped, “You know what, I am not president of the United States!” — a statement critics said perfectly summed up her political downfall.
“She always deflects blame,” said Republican strategist John Fredericks. “Even when she’s not in power, she can’t take responsibility for her own failures.”
Harris’ memoir — a 352-page retelling of her failed 2024 presidential campaign after Joe Biden’s withdrawal — has already stirred backlash from within her own party.
According to Politico, one senior adviser to a 2028 Democratic hopeful blasted the book as “embarrassing.” “At a time when people are looking for vision and leadership, it’s crazy she chose to write a gossip book about campaign drama,” the source said.
Longtime Democratic strategist Gary South was even harsher, telling The Hill, “She came out with arms flailing and guns blazing, blaming everyone but herself for her loss. It’s ungracious and negative — especially from someone who still thinks she can run again in 2028.”
Even mainstream media figures have joined the pile-on. Former CNN analyst Chris Cillizza called 107 Days “a reminder of why Kamala Harris never connected with voters,” writing on Substack that she “hasn’t gotten much better over her decades in politics.”
On X, Cillizza added bluntly: “She’s not good on her feet. She speaks in word salads.”
Harris’ rocky tour comes as President Trump begins his second year back in the White House, reshaping the political landscape she once tried to dominate. While Trump’s approval ratings have surged among working-class and independent voters, Harris’ own numbers have cratered, with a recent Rasmussen poll showing just 19% of Americans view her favorably.
“She’s stuck in 2024,” said conservative commentator Candace Owens. “The country moved on — and clearly, the crowds at her book tour have too.”
Despite the pushback, Harris told reporters she plans to “finish the tour strong.” Whether audiences will let her speak without interruption, however, remains to be seen.
