Murder Suspect Accidentally Released from Jail Instead of Being Extradited

Police are on the hunt for a murder suspect who was accidentally released from a California jail.

Isaiah Jamon Andrews, 20, was mistakenly freed from the Martinez Detention Facility on Monday, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Andrews, a native of Kent, Washington, was facing local charges in California, a juvenile warrant from Sacramento, and a homicide arrest warrant in Seattle. He was supposed to be extradited to Washington to face murder charges.

Officials say once staff realized the mistake, they searched the area immediately but confirmed Andrews was already gone. The U.S. Marshals Service is now leading the search, with local law enforcement agencies also alerted.

Andrews was originally arrested following a car chase in California, just three days after he allegedly shot and killed 20-year-old Theodore Wheeler in Seattle.

Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes commented on the mishap, noting that while law enforcement did their part, the courts and corrections system failed in this instance.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Andrews’ whereabouts to call (866) 846-3592 or email tips@so.cccounty.us.
