“This is political cruelty,” say Republicans — while Biden-aligned Senate Dems play games with America’s dinner tables
Hunger games in the U.S. Senate? That’s exactly what it looks like as 42 million Americans face the terrifying prospect of empty cupboards and denied food aid — all thanks to Senate Democrats digging in their heels and refusing to fund the government.
Today marks the deadline: November 1. Federal food stamp benefits — better known as SNAP — are set to vanish for millions. And while President Donald Trump and House Republicans have already passed a full-year budget, Senator Chuck Schumer and his far-left allies are blocking it with arms crossed and fists clenched.
“This isn’t just gridlock,” snapped Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.). “This is intentional sabotage.”
President Trump, addressing the crisis from the White House lawn Friday, didn’t mince words:
“They’ve had over a dozen chances to fund these programs — they said no. They’d rather watch families suffer than give up control.”
Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are screaming that Trump should raid the USDA’s emergency contingency fund. But the problem? That money is for real emergencies — not political blackmail.
USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins was crystal clear:
“We can’t legally use the $5 billion unless Congress funds the underlying program. They know that. They’re hoping you don’t.”
With the shutdown in its 5th week, Democrats are using hungry Americans as leverage to force a budget deal on their terms — while blaming Trump for obeying the law.
Tensions boiled over in the Senate chamber Thursday as Democrat Sen. Ben Ray Luján tried to sneak through a bill to fund food stamps and WIC. Thune shut it down cold.
“This isn’t a charity. This is the United States government,” Thune thundered. “You had thirteen chances to fund this — and you want a photo op now?”
The confrontation stunned onlookers. But for families living paycheck-to-paycheck, the drama isn’t entertainment — it’s a nightmare.
“We’re terrified,” said Carolyn Fields, a single mother of three in Ohio. “We’ve got two days of food left and no idea what happens Monday.”
Late Friday, two federal judges — both Obama-era appointees — ordered the Trump administration to pay SNAP benefits, full or partial. Legal experts say the ruling raises major constitutional concerns.
“You’ve got judges trying to order spending without appropriations,” warned Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). “That’s banana republic stuff. Congress controls the purse — not activist courts.”
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) blamed Trump directly:
“He’s got $5 billion and he’s just sitting on it. He’s making this worse on purpose.”
What Murphy leaves out? That $5 billion only covers half of what’s needed for November — and it’s legally untouchable without Congressional action.
“It’s hurricane season,” said Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.). “That money is supposed to be for disasters — not Democrat tantrums.”
Even Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced a bipartisan rescue bill with 29 co-sponsors, including — ironically — Schumer himself. But Schumer now refuses to bring the bill to the floor.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has made it clear: the House won’t play games.
“The Senate needs to vote to reopen the government. No backdoor deals. No short-term gimmicks. Do your job.”
The consequences are horrifying: 42 million Americans — including veterans, working moms, and seniors — face the very real threat of no food assistance by Monday.
“We’re seeing panic,” said Pastor Alvin Dorsey, who runs a food bank in Georgia. “Lines out the door. Shelves empty. People crying.”
The Trump administration has urged calm and emphasized that this crisis is avoidable — but only if Senate Democrats stop using Americans as political pawns.
“They don’t want to solve the problem,” said Thune. “They want to weaponize it.”

Since the politicians can’t seem to figure out common sense problems and have caused this issue. Stop paying them. Give the money to those that need it–who also should be working and stop the decades of so called “relief” which is supposed to be short term…not enough to raise generations of freeloading so called “citizens” That is NOT the American way
Where I am from, it is called the Schumer Shutdown
Well let\’s get rid of these democrats that hate America. They are just kings and queens of corruption and stupidity You can\’t fix stupid
