Bruce Willis’ Daughter Gives Sad Update on Father’s Decline

Rumer Willis just gave fans a gut-wrenching update about her father, Bruce Willis — and it’s not what anyone wanted to hear.

The Die Hard legend, 70, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022, and his daughter Rumer says the reality is heartbreaking.

“People always ask me how my dad’s doing,” Rumer said during an Instagram Q&A on Nov. 20. “And honestly — it’s kind of a hard one to answer because anybody with FTD is not doing great.”

She added, “He’s doing okay in terms of somebody who’s dealing with frontotemporal dementia, you know what I mean?”

Rumer, 37, admitted that talking about her dad’s health never gets easier. “The normal idea of how someone’s ‘doing’ doesn’t really work anymore,” she explained.

Then came the emotional part. “I’m just so grateful that I still get to hug him,” she said. “Whether he recognizes me or not — he can feel the love I give him, and I can feel it back.”

She says she still sees “a spark of him” when she visits with her 2-year-old daughter, Louetta. “That’s what I hold on to,” Rumer said. “Those tiny moments where you feel the love and the connection. That’s everything.”

Bruce’s illness — frontotemporal dementia, or FTD — has no cure. It slowly strips away language, behavior, and memory.

His wife, Emma Heming Willis, has also described the painful changes in her husband’s personality. In her book The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, Emma admitted she thought something was wrong in their marriage before realizing the truth.

“FTD doesn’t scream — it whispers,” she told People. “It’s so gray to know where Bruce stopped and where the disease kicked in.”

In a powerful Good Morning America interview, Emma said that even though Bruce’s memory is slipping, his love hasn’t faded.

“He’s holding our hands. We’re kissing him. We’re hugging him,” she said. “He’s still there. I don’t need him to remember that I’m his wife. I just need to feel that connection — and I do.”

Bruce shares five daughters — Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah with Demi Moore, and Mabel and Evelyn with Emma.

For Rumer, the hardest part isn’t losing the Bruce the world knows — it’s losing little pieces of the dad she grew up with.

“I wish I asked more questions while you could still tell me,” she once wrote. “But I’m grateful you’re still here. I can still hold you. I can still feel you.”

Bruce Willis may no longer remember the spotlight, but his family is determined to keep his light alive.
