A University of Oklahoma student says she was failed and humiliated after submitting a gender-studies essay that quoted the Bible — and now the university is under fire.
Samantha Fulnecky, a psychology major, says she’s being targeted for her Christian faith after turning in an essay rejecting the idea of multiple genders — in a class taught by a transgender graduate student.
“They asked how gender shapes our lives. I told them the truth. God made male and female. That’s it,” Fulnecky said.
She was given a failing grade and told her beliefs were “offensive” and “lacked academic evidence.” The instructor? Mel Curth, who identifies with “she/they” pronouns.
Fulnecky’s 650-word essay pulled no punches.
“Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders… is demonic and severely harms American youth,” she wrote.
She argued that gender confusion is destroying children’s confidence and said kids “belong to the Lord.”
Instead of receiving feedback on her writing, Fulnecky says she was graded down for her worldview.
Curth slammed the essay, writing:
“To call an entire group of people ‘demonic’ is highly offensive.”
Another instructor, Megan Waldron, agreed with the failing grade and criticized Fulnecky for not seeing bullying as “a bad thing.”
“Your paper harshly criticizes your peers. There’s a respectful way to disagree,” Waldron wrote.
After Turning Point USA at OU shared screenshots of the essay and feedback, the university was hit with a flood of backlash.
The school responded by placing a graduate student instructor on administrative leave while it investigates a claim of religious discrimination.
OU didn’t name names — but the timing is clear.
“If quoting the Bible is now a punishable offense in college, where does it end?” one student asked.
The university’s vague statement confirmed a student alleged she was penalized for her religious beliefs. The instructor was removed pending review.
The firestorm comes just months after President Trump signed the Campus Free Expression Order, cutting federal funds from colleges that punish protected speech.
Oklahoma conservatives are calling this case a wake-up call.
“This is why we fought for Trump’s campus reforms,” said Rep. Ryan Walters (R-OK). “Universities shouldn’t be grading students based on whether they agree with the radical agenda.”
Fulnecky is now considering legal action. Her supporters say she has a strong case under Title IX and federal civil rights laws that protect students from religious discrimination.
She says she’s not backing down.
“I didn’t attack anyone. I wrote what I believe. That’s what freedom of speech means.”
Faith-based legal groups are reportedly offering help — and the case could become a national flashpoint.

Hopefully this \”instructor\”/indoctrinator will be fired and replaced by someone who understands biology/science/ the Bible and knows that there are males and females: the rest of the made up genders were created by delusional people.
