Trump Slammed Over Joking He’d Get “Impeached” If He Snubbed Women’s Hockey Champs After Men’s Gold Win

President Donald Trump was in full celebratory mode after Team USA’s men’s hockey squad clinched Olympic gold in Milano Cortina — but it was his off-the-cuff impeachment joke that had people talking.

Following the team’s dramatic win over Canada on Sunday, Feb. 22, Trump phoned the locker room to congratulate the players, calling their performance “unbelievable” and praising their grit on the ice.

“You were all unbelievable,” he said in a video capturing the call. “That team is pretty good you played.”

The president invited the team to attend his upcoming State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol, promising a military plane ride to D.C. and brushing off any weather concerns.

“The nice thing about being president is I can tell you, you don’t have to worry about the weather,” Trump joked. “We don’t care if it’s snowing or if it’s the worst blizzard, you’ll be sailing through that sucker just like you did on the ice today.”

He also teased a White House celebration the following day. “We’ll just have some fun. We have medals for you guys,” he said, drawing laughter from the players.

But the moment that quickly spread across social media came when Trump pivoted to the U.S. women’s hockey team, which also captured gold over Canada just days earlier.

“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team,” he said with a laugh. “You do know that. I do believe I’d probably be impeached if the women’s team wasn’t invited.”

The remark — clearly delivered as a joke — immediately sparked online chatter.

The call was reportedly coordinated in part by FBI Director Kash Patel, who was in Milan for the semifinal matchup and later joined the locker room celebration. Videos circulating online showed Patel drinking beer, spraying it around the room and pounding his chest as Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” blasted in the background.

The celebration footage surfaced just hours after the U.S. Secret Service fatally shot an armed man who allegedly breached Mar-a-Lago, adding another layer of controversy. In a post on X, Patel said the FBI was dedicating “all necessary resources” to the investigation.

Still, some critics questioned the optics.

“There was a threat at the president’s residence at Mar-a-Lago, Americans in Mexico are facing major threats by cartel members, Nancy Guthrie is still missing, and our FBI Director thinks he’s a frat bro?!” Xochitl Hinojosa, a spokesperson for former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, wrote on X.

For now, though, Team USA’s double gold sweep — and Trump’s locker-room punchlines — are dominating the headlines.
