NBA legend Charles Barkley is once again saying exactly what’s on his mind — and this time, it’s parents who are in the hot seat.
During a candid appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” the Hall of Famer didn’t hold back as the conversation shifted from March Madness to what he sees as a bigger problem: a lack of discipline in today’s kids.
And according to Barkley, that problem starts at home.
“You can’t even yell at them anymore,” he said, referring to modern athletes. But he quickly widened his focus, taking aim at parenting styles across the board.
“People talking about you can’t yell at your kids. Yes, you can yell at your kids,” Barkley said. “You’ll whoop their a– too… That’s why these kids are crazy.”
The blunt comments immediately raised eyebrows — but Barkley made it clear he wasn’t advocating abuse. Instead, he doubled down on what he calls “old-school discipline.”
“I’m not going around telling people to beat their kids,” he explained. “But if you don’t spank your kids and discipline them, they turn into some of these brats that we got today.”
Barkley argued that young kids don’t always understand right from wrong through reasoning alone, suggesting consequences — including spanking — send a clearer message.
“You can’t rationalize with kids,” he added. “They don’t know they’re doing stuff wrong, but when you spank them, that gets the message across.”
Still, the outspoken analyst knew his comments would ignite backlash — and made it clear he couldn’t care less.
“You can blast me on social media… I don’t read comments,” Barkley said. “I don’t care what you think. Y’all can kiss my big Black a–.”
Love him or hate him, Barkley isn’t backing down. And as debates over parenting styles continue to divide opinions nationwide, one thing is certain — he’s not afraid to stir the pot.
