A quiet Monday morning in a Texas school community turned into a nightmare when a 15-year-old student shot a teacher before fatally shooting himself, authorities said.
The violence unfolded at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, a suburb just north of San Antonio, sending students, staff, and parents into panic as law enforcement rushed to secure the campus.
According to officials, the teacher was rushed to a San Antonio hospital after being shot. As of Monday afternoon, authorities had not released an update on her condition.
The student died at the scene, and investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive. No other injuries were reported.
The shooting triggered an immediate lockdown at the school, with law enforcement later confirming the campus had been secured.
Students and staff were then transported by bus to nearby Bulverde Middle School, where shaken families were told to bring identification to reunite with their children.
Authorities have not released the names of either the student or the teacher involved. Investigators are still working to piece together exactly what happened, including how the teen got the weapon onto campus and what may have led up to the shooting.
The first emergency call came in around 8:34 a.m., just before classes were set to begin, turning what should have been a normal school day into a scene of chaos and heartbreak.
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office said there is no longer any threat to the public, but for this small Texas community, the shock is only beginning to settle in.
