A routine act of kindness turned into a nightmare on a Florida highway when a good Samaritan was viciously attacked by the very man he stopped to help.
Hans Hamilton says he thought he was doing the right thing Monday morning when he pulled over along the 429 Expressway near Walt Disney World after spotting a white car smashed into a guardrail.
Instead, he nearly lost his life.
“This person tried to kill me,” Hamilton said after suffering a brain bleed, broken ribs, and severe trauma in the shocking roadside ambush.
According to authorities, the driver — later identified as 44-year-old Daniel Coman — appeared lifeless when Hamilton approached. But in a sudden, terrifying twist captured on dashcam video, Coman sprang to his feet and launched into a violent frenzy.
He reportedly leapt onto the hood of Hamilton’s Tesla, smashing the windshield before dragging the stunned Good Samaritan to the ground.
What followed was a brutal, 30-second beatdown.
Video shows Coman raining punches on Hamilton’s head and body as the victim struggled to survive the unprovoked attack. Hamilton said he eventually fought back, striking Coman in the throat just to break free.
Moments later, law enforcement arrived — but the chaos didn’t stop there.
Deputies say Coman immediately turned aggressive again, attempting to attack a responding officer and swinging wildly as authorities tried to detain him. Hamilton, despite his injuries, helped officers subdue the suspect.
Investigators later uncovered even more disturbing details.
Coman is believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash just miles away before the highway incident. He’s also tied to a separate criminal mischief case earlier that same morning, though officials have not released further details.
The charges are stacking up fast.
Coman now faces multiple counts, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, assault, battery, and criminal mischief.
Meanwhile, Hamilton was rushed to the hospital, where doctors treated him for a brain bleed, concussion, multiple contusions, and four broken ribs. A GoFundMe has since been launched to help cover his mounting medical bills and vehicle damage.
Despite the horror he endured, Hamilton says his only intention that day was simple.
“I just wanted to help someone,” he said.
Instead, that decision turned into a fight for his life — and a chilling reminder that even acts of kindness can carry unimaginable risks.

Had the same thing happen to me years ago while traveling in upstate New York. The guy came running at me screaming that he was going to sue me! Since that time, it’s got to be a very serious situation before I even consider stopping.
