The ladies of The View found a new reason to take aim at President Donald Trump — this time blaming him for the New York Knicks’ crushing NBA Finals loss.
During Tuesday’s episode, co-host Sunny Hostin suggested Trump’s appearance at Madison Square Garden brought “bad juju” to the arena after the Knicks’ winning streak came to a painful end.
The wild moment came after the Knicks, who had been riding high with back-to-back wins, fell short by four points against the Spurs on Monday, June 8. Some frustrated fans immediately turned their anger toward Trump, claiming his presence somehow jinxed the team.
Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the discussion by admitting Trump’s visit caused chaos across New York City.
“He came into town, messed up everything,” Goldberg said. “You couldn’t make a left, couldn’t make a right, couldn’t go across the street. You couldn’t buy anything.”
Goldberg said Knicks fans had been waiting for a moment like this for years, only for the president’s arrival to become part of the postgame blame game.
“These people have been waiting for this to happen, and so, this man comes in, he’s a fan, and okay. But my goodness!” she said. “And they are blaming him for breaking the Knicks’ winning streak last night.”
But even Goldberg, no fan of Trump, pushed back on the idea that he had mystical powers over the game.
“I have to just reiterate the fact that this man does not have that kind of power,” she said. “We have to remind people he doesn’t have the power.”
That did not stop fans online from piling on.
“Trump shows up and Knicks lose for first time in 2 months. Messed up the historic momentum,” one X user wrote.
Another added, “Is anybody surprised that Trump jinxed the Knicks game last night?”
A third fumed, “Trump’s bad luck. He ruined the good vibes and the winning streak the Knicks were on. And inconvenienced all of New York and for what??? So he could come and fall asleep?”
Hostin then took the Trump-bashing even further, claiming the president’s presence spiritually contaminated Madison Square Garden.
“We had an impeccable vibe in New York until the orange man showed and put the bad juju onto Madison Square Garden,” Hostin said. “Now, we’re gonna have to go back in and sage the whole Madison Square Garden to get the bad juju out.”
Hostin also complained about the cost of securing the arena for a presidential visit, claiming Trump’s appearance cost New York millions of dollars.
“It costs so much money to secure Madison Square Garden,” she said. “It cost New York millions of dollars for Donald Trump to come to the game, where he was not cheered. He was booed. And during which, he fell asleep.”
Trump, who turns 80 later this month, was accused by critics of appearing to nod off during the game, adding more fuel to the media pile-on.
Still, Goldberg had previously defended Trump’s right to attend the game, saying any longtime Knicks fan deserved to be there.
“Anyone who’s a Knicks fan should be there,” Goldberg said.
When Ana Navarro pointed out that Trump now lives in Florida, Goldberg pushed back by saying hometown loyalty does not disappear just because someone moves away.
“I was a Californian. I lived in California. I went to the Laker games. But I have always been, at my core, because I’m from here, I have always been a Knicks fan,” Goldberg said. “When you have always been a Knicks fan, it doesn’t matter where you live.”
The debate quickly turned into another familiar scene on The View: a sports loss, a presidential appearance, and somehow, Trump becoming the center of the blame.
