Whoopi Goldberg had another live-TV cleanup moment on The View after taking a nasty swipe at House Speaker Mike Johnson — then instantly realizing she may have gone too far.
During Tuesday’s episode, the panel was discussing a war powers resolution tied to the ongoing conflict with Iran when guest Sen. Chris Murphy accused House Republicans of avoiding a vote that could embarrass President Donald Trump.
Murphy argued that Democrats and some Republicans wanted to push a bipartisan vote calling the war “a disaster,” claiming it would pressure the president to end the conflict, lower gas prices, and refocus on American families.
That was when Goldberg jumped in with a blunt insult.
“He’s a moron,” she said, apparently referring to Johnson.
Almost as soon as the words left her mouth, Goldberg looked uncomfortable and quickly tried to walk it back.
“I’m sorry that came out of my mouth,” she said. “I take it back.”
The awkward moment added to a growing pattern of The View hosts making harsh comments about Trump allies, only to soften or retract them moments later.
Earlier this month, Goldberg also backtracked after accusing Elon Musk of being “okay” with apartheid in South Africa. She later admitted she did not actually know enough to make that claim.
“I don’t know that he was an apartheid apologist,” Goldberg said at the time. “I don’t know anything about him, except that I’m not a fan, so I take it back.”
The latest on-air stumble comes as ABC and The View face increased scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission over political content on the daytime show.
Trump-appointed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has opened an investigation involving ABC’s broadcast license and whether a prior exemption from the “equal time” rule should remain in place.
ABC has pushed back hard, claiming the FCC’s actions could chill protected political speech and amount to retaliatory targeting over criticism of Trump.
But for critics of The View, Goldberg’s latest insult-and-apology moment is likely to fuel the argument that the show has become less of a daytime discussion panel and more of a predictable anti-Trump firing line.
And this time, even Goldberg seemed to know she had crossed a line.
