Barron Trump was reportedly terrified for his father’s safety after the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk — and immediately warned Donald Trump that his public appearances could put him in deadly danger.
According to the new book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, Barron, then 19, was the first person to tell the president that Kirk had been killed.
The chilling moment allegedly left Barron fearing his father could be the next target.
“This is what happens when you go out there,” Barron reportedly told his dad. “This is what happened.”
Donald Trump tried to calm his shaken son down, telling him, “Calm down, honey, calm down,” according to the book. But behind the scenes, the president was said to be rattled, too.
The stunning claim comes as concerns over Trump’s safety have only grown following several terrifying security scares and assassination attempts since 2024.
Barron was reportedly worried that if attackers could not reach his father, they might go after the people closest to him instead. White House officials had allegedly been warned that Trump’s children and close allies could become “soft targets,” with Kirk considered especially vulnerable.
Barron is not the only Trump family member who has been on edge.
Eric Trump has also spoken out about the repeated threats against his father, calling the situation “absolutely infuriating” during a conversation with Sean Hannity while traveling with Trump to China last month.
Eric specifically pointed to the July 2024 shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Thomas Matthew Crooks came within inches of killing Trump before the bullet struck the upper part of his ear.
“It’s a 130-yard shot,” Eric said. “It’s an unmissable shot if you are even remotely competent with a rifle.”
He added, “God knows what would’ve happened to this country if they had killed him, which was obviously their intent.”
Eric also referenced the alleged assassination attempt at Trump’s golf course and other frightening security incidents involving the president.
One of the most alarming scares came at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, when Cole Tomas Allen was accused of rushing past security checkpoints and heading toward the ballroom where Trump and other top officials were gathered.
Federal prosecutors claimed Allen had traveled from California to Washington, D.C., checked into a hotel and prepared for what they described as a premeditated attack.
Investigators said Allen was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun and knives, before agents stopped him.
Trump has previously warned that any successful attempt on his life would be met with devastating retaliation.
In February 2025, he said he had already left instructions in case Iran ever succeeded in assassinating him.
“That would be a terrible thing for them to do, not because of me,” Trump said at the time. “If they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end.”
He later made a similar warning during an interview with NewsNation host Katie Pavlich.
“I have very firm instructions,” Trump said. “Anything happens, they’re going to wipe them off the face of this earth.”
For Barron, however, the fear appeared much more personal.
According to the book, the assassination of Kirk sent a brutal message to the Trump family: no one in the president’s orbit was truly untouchable.
