Jill Biden Makes Stunning Admission About Hunter’s Drug Addiction

Former first lady Jill Biden is opening up about one of the darkest chapters in the Biden family’s history, admitting that she struggled for years to understand Hunter Biden’s devastating drug addiction — and at times even wondered whether she was somehow to blame.

During a candid appearance on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Jill spoke about the emotional toll Hunter’s repeated trips to rehab took on the family and how difficult it was for her to accept that addiction could strike despite the advantages he had growing up.

“Addiction affects so many people, and it was really hard, I think, for me personally, to understand addiction, to understand it was an illness,” Jill said.

She admitted that she kept asking herself how Hunter could have fallen so far when his family believed they had given him every possible opportunity.

“I kept feeling like, ‘My God, we gave him everything,’” she recalled.

“We gave him a good education. He couldn’t be more loved. He has a great family. We live in a great house. What more could we have given him?”

For Jill, the years of failed attempts to get Hunter clean led to painful questions about whether the family had missed something.

“You tend to look at yourself and think, ‘What did I do wrong? How could I have done this better?’” she said.

“And once you’re going through rehab after rehab and you’re not getting answers, I think it’s really hard.”

Despite those years of chaos, Jill said she is now proud of Hunter for getting his life back on track and speaking openly about addiction.

“But Hunter has overcome his addiction, if that’s the right word. Thank God,” she told Ripa.

Jill pointed to Hunter’s recent podcast appearances, where the former president’s son has openly discussed his years of substance abuse and his recovery.

“You’ve probably heard him on podcasts now,” Jill said. “He openly talks about addiction, which I think is helping other addicts see their way forward and helping families.”

Ripa responded that Hunter’s openness could help families “understand that it is a disease.”

“Yeah. Exactly,” Jill replied.

She added that Hunter has now been sober for roughly eight to 10 years, remarried and become the father of a young son named Beau.

“He turned his life around, but it wasn’t easy, and it was years and years,” Jill said.

Hunter has recently been unusually candid about just how severe his addiction became.

During a May podcast appearance with conservative commentator Candace Owens — who had repeatedly mocked him over his drug use — Hunter addressed the issue head-on.

“I’ve heard you call me a crackhead many times, and the truth of the matter is, I was a crackhead,” Hunter said.

He then described the moment when his life began collapsing around him.

“My marriage fell apart, and it just started a really, really dark cycle,” Hunter said.

According to Hunter, his late brother Beau Biden eventually confronted him and demanded that he stop destroying himself.

“My brother called me and said, ‘This has got to stop,’” Hunter recalled.

The crisis ultimately became a life-or-death decision.

“And it forced me into a choice,” he said. “And the choice was, do I get out of bed and live, or do I die?”

Hunter has previously revealed disturbing details about how severe his drug use became.

In his memoir, he wrote that he developed what he called a “superpower” for locating crack cocaine and claimed he was sometimes smoking the drug roughly every 15 minutes.

At another point, Hunter described his daily routine during the worst period of his addiction as consuming “a bottle of vodka and as many hits on a crack pipe as possible.”

His drug abuse became so severe that Joe Biden, then serving as vice president under Barack Obama, eventually confronted his son personally.

“I know you’re not fine, Hunter,” Joe reportedly told him. “You need help.”

Despite Hunter’s spiraling addiction and the controversies that would later surround him, Joe Biden remained fiercely loyal to his son.

Hunter wrote that his father never abandoned him even when his behavior reached its lowest point.

“He never let me forget that all was not lost,” Hunter wrote. “He never abandoned me, never shunned me, never judged me, no matter how bad things got.”

Hunter added that things would ultimately become “much, much worse” before he finally began recovering.

For the Biden family, Jill’s latest comments offer a rare glimpse behind the political image that surrounded them for decades. While Hunter’s personal life has repeatedly become a political liability for his father and a source of intense public scrutiny, Jill said the family’s battle behind closed doors was much more personal — years of rehab, relapse, fear and unanswered questions before Hunter finally began putting his life back together.
