Jill Biden ‘Prays for Beau to Show Up’ for Joe as Cancer Battle Turns Painful

Jill Biden has revealed the heartbreaking way she is coping with former President Joe Biden’s cancer battle — by turning to his late son Beau for strength.

The former first lady said she prays to Beau Biden every morning and sometimes pleads with him to “show up” as Joe continues fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has reportedly spread to his bones.

During an emotional appearance on the August 17 episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Jill opened up about the fear, frustration and grief surrounding her husband’s illness.

“Every morning, I pray to Beau, you know, and I think he listens,” Jill said.

Beau Biden died from brain cancer in May 2015 at just 46 years old. His death devastated the Biden family, particularly Joe, who has spoken repeatedly over the years about the enormous impact of losing his eldest son.

Now, more than a decade later, Jill says she finds herself calling on Beau again as Joe faces his own painful cancer diagnosis.

“And now with Joe, with Joe’s cancer diagnosis, I get a little frustrated and I say, ‘Beau, where are you? I need you,’” she said.

Jill added that there are moments when the emotions become so overwhelming that she visits Beau’s grave just to speak with him.

“Some of those times, when I feel that, I need to go to the cemetery and talk to him and hope he listens,” she explained.

The deeply personal admission comes as the Biden family continues adjusting to Joe’s serious health crisis.

Joe was diagnosed with what his family described as an aggressive form of cancer in May 2025. His son Hunter Biden recently revealed that the disease has metastasized to his bones, making the former president’s condition especially difficult and painful.

Jill, who released her memoir View From the East Wing in June, has also spoken candidly about becoming a caregiver to her 83-year-old husband.

During a June appearance on Today, she said doctors believe Joe may have to live with cancer for the rest of his life.

She admitted that caring for him has brought a constant stream of worries.

“It’s so hard to be a caregiver in that you worry every day, ‘Is he eating right? Is he getting enough exercise? Did he have his medications?’” Jill said.

The cancer battle marks yet another devastating health crisis for a family that has endured extraordinary personal loss.

Joe Biden shared Beau and Hunter Biden with his first wife, Neilia Biden. Neilia and the couple’s 13-month-old daughter, Naomi, were killed in a car crash in 1972.

Joe later married Jill in 1977, and the couple welcomed daughter Ashley Biden.

For Jill, Beau’s presence remains deeply felt more than 11 years after his death — especially as the family now rallies around Joe.

Her emotional comments offered a rare glimpse inside the former first family as they confront one of the most difficult chapters of their lives, with Jill saying she continues to look to Beau for comfort when the fear becomes too much.
