Vandals deface World War II Memorial in ‘Deranged’ Attack

Vandals targeted one of America’s most sacred war memorials Thursday, dumping soap into a fountain at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and scrawling a bizarre message in red paint.

The Aug. 13 attack left massive piles of white foam spilling across the landmark as visitors looked on, while the words “Clean Hands Dirty $” were spray-painted in red at the memorial.

It was not immediately clear what the message was supposed to mean — or why anyone would choose to target a monument honoring the Americans and Allied forces who fought and died during World War II.

The soap was dumped into a fountain honoring the Atlantic Theater, where Allied forces ultimately defeated Nazi Germany.

Photos from the scene showed frothy bubbles rising several feet high and spreading across portions of the memorial. Some children could even be seen touching and playing with the suds as authorities responded.

Interior Department spokesman Cody Sargent blasted those responsible, calling the incident “disgusting vandalism from deranged losers.”

“It’s pathetic to deface a memorial to our WWII heroes,” Sargent wrote on X.

“Thankfully, I know our incredible [National Park Service] will get this cleaned up for the majority of Americans who love our country.”

U.S. Park Police and National Guard personnel were seen at the memorial following the vandalism.

The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the war, including more than 400,000 who died. World War II ended 81 years ago in 1945.

Thursday’s incident comes amid growing concerns about vandalism at some of Washington’s most recognizable monuments.

The nearby Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was also recently targeted, with vandals allegedly damaging the coating of its new swimming-pool-style liner.

And in June, someone used chemicals to burn the message “86 47” into the lawn near the Washington Monument — an apparent anti-Trump message referencing President Donald Trump as the nation’s 47th president.

Now, another historic landmark has been left for federal workers to clean up after vandals turned a memorial dedicated to America’s World War II heroes into the latest target of a bizarre political-style stunt.
