Erika Kirk Furious After Vandals Cover Charlie Kirk Statue in Red Paint

Erika Kirk is firing back after vandals covered a newly unveiled statue honoring her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, in red spray paint just days after it was installed.

The eight-foot bronze statue outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix-area headquarters was discovered vandalized Sunday morning, with red paint covering parts of Kirk’s face, neck, hand and torso. A nearby memorial sign was also defaced, including a red X over Kirk’s face and markings across the name “Jesus.”

Charlie once said we should be building two statues for every statue that they tear down. His instinct was always to build, not to destroy. They thought a bullet would silence my husband’s voice but it only made it louder. They think spray paint can obscure his legacy, but it will only spread it further. Every attempt to tear down what Charlie built makes us root deeper and work even harder. And if you think crossing out the name of Jesus Christ will silence Christians, history has already proved you wrong. We know what it costs to stand firm for Christ and we will stand anyway. But Erika Kirk made it clear the destruction would not intimidate her or stop the organization her husband helped build.

“Charlie once said we should be building two statues for every statue that they tear down,” she wrote on X. “His instinct was always to build, not to destroy.”

Erika said attempts to silence her husband have only strengthened the movement surrounding him.

“They thought a bullet would silence my husband’s voice, but it only made it louder,” she wrote. “They think spray paint can obscure his legacy, but it will only spread it further.”

She also condemned the apparent targeting of the Christian message displayed at the memorial, saying the organization would repair the damage and continue moving forward.

“We’ll put his name right back where it belongs, clean up the mess, restore Charlie’s statue, and keep building,” she wrote. “We will never give up and never surrender.”

Turning Point USA called the vandalism “diabolical” and said security footage is being reviewed as the organization works with law enforcement to identify whoever was responsible.

Phoenix police said officers responded Sunday morning after receiving a report that the memorial had been defaced. No suspect had publicly been identified as of Monday.

The statue was unveiled on September 10, exactly one year after Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University in Utah. Kirk was 31.

The conservative activist co-founded Turning Point USA and became one of the most prominent voices in Republican youth politics before his death. Erika Kirk later took over as CEO of the organization.

The man accused of killing Kirk, Tyler Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder and other offenses.

Earlier this month, Utah Judge Tony Graf ruled that Robinson will stand trial on all counts. Robinson subsequently pleaded not guilty. Because the aggravated murder charge is a capital offense under Utah law, he could face the death penalty if convicted.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 23, when the judge is expected to address scheduling for the trial.

Erika attended Robinson’s preliminary hearing and became emotional as the judge reviewed details surrounding her husband’s death.

The vandalism also comes as Erika continues to deal with conspiracy theories surrounding Kirk’s assassination.

Vice President JD Vance recently blasted online claims targeting Erika and members of Turning Point USA, saying accusations that people close to Kirk were somehow involved in his death “just enrages” him.

Vance said Erika is raising the couple’s two children after losing their father and does not deserve the accusations being directed at her.

For Turning Point USA, however, the message after the vandalism was straightforward: the statue will be cleaned, the damaged signs will be replaced, and the memorial will remain standing.
