Donuts Recalled Over ‘Life-Threatening’ Risk

A nationwide recall has been issued for a popular chocolate-covered snack after a consumer suffered an allergic reaction.

The Better Bakehouse Snack Company is recalling certain packages of its Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts because they may contain milk that is not listed on the label, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The affected mini donuts were sold at major retailers including Target, Kroger and Safeway.

The FDA announced the recall Monday after an allergic reaction was reported in connection with the product. The individual has since fully recovered.

But federal officials warned the labeling mistake could have far more serious consequences for people with milk allergies.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the FDA said.

The recall is limited to Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts carrying a “Best If Used By” date of Sept. 15, 2026, along with lot code 26078.

Officials said the problem was traced to a labeling error involving a contract manufacturer in March. Corrective measures have since been put in place.

Anyone who purchased the affected donuts is being urged not to eat them. Customers can instead return the product to the store where it was purchased for a refund.

“The Better Bakehouse Snack Company is working with the contract manufacturer and retailers to remove any remaining affected product from the marketplace,” the company said.

Consumers with milk allergies are being urged to check packages carefully before anyone in the household takes another bite.
