Meghan Markle’s estranged father has made a startling confession about his past visits to the Philippines as he fights to clear his name in an international investigation involving allegations of child sexual abuse material.
Thomas Markle Sr., 82, admitted paying prostitutes during trips to the Southeast Asian country but fiercely denied accusations involving underage girls. The former Hollywood lighting director insists he is innocent and says he is prepared to cooperate with investigators to prove it.
In a revealing interview with the Mail on Sunday, Markle acknowledged traveling to the Philippines at least twice while he was single and paying women for sex.
“I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18,” he declared, insisting that his past relationships had nothing to do with the disturbing allegations now surrounding him.
The admission comes as authorities in the Philippines investigate claims that child sexual abuse images and videos were discovered among belongings at Markle’s former home in Cebu.
The allegations surfaced after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly discovered the material while going through his father’s possessions. The younger Markle said he was horrified by what he found and felt compelled to contact authorities, despite having spent years supporting and caring for his father.
Philippine officials have confirmed that investigators are examining evidence, including a laptop recovered from the property. Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla told The Guardian that forensic specialists were analyzing the material and expected to provide additional findings within approximately a week.
Those findings could prove critical in determining whether authorities pursue criminal charges. No charges against Thomas Sr. have been publicly announced, and the allegations against him remain unproven.
Meanwhile, the FBI has confirmed that it is aware of the accusations and will assist Philippine authorities when appropriate. The agency also said it would examine any potential violations of U.S. federal law.
Markle, who is recovering at a Florida nursing facility after undergoing a leg amputation in 2025, has repeatedly rejected the allegations. He claims that any illegal material discovered on devices associated with him must have been planted by someone else.
He has also questioned why his own son would make such serious accusations and maintained that he is willing to have the electronic devices examined.
“I have nothing to hide,” he told the Mail on Sunday.
But the controversy has taken an even more dramatic turn following revelations that British police received troubling allegations about Markle years before the current investigation began.
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that it received a letter in January 2019 containing allegations of wrongdoing outside the United Kingdom. Officers passed the information to the office of Prince Harry and Meghan but did not share it with other law enforcement agencies.
The department is now reviewing its handling of the matter and considering whether to refer its actions to Britain’s independent police watchdog.
Meghan, 45, initially recalled learning of the allegations in 2018. Her spokesperson later acknowledged that she may have misremembered the precise timing and accepted the police department’s documented 2019 timeline.
The Duchess of Sussex has described herself as deeply distressed by the latest revelations and expressed concern for any children who may have been harmed.
She also defended her longstanding decision to keep her father away from her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, explaining that protecting them was her priority.
Her comments have cast a new light on one of the royal family’s most publicized family feuds.
Meghan and her father became estranged around her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, following a controversy involving staged paparazzi photographs. Thomas did not attend the ceremony, and their relationship has remained fractured ever since.
Now, the explosive allegations have brought that family conflict back into the international spotlight, with Thomas Sr. questioning why Meghan never personally confronted him about the earlier claims.
He maintains that he has been denied an opportunity to defend himself and continues to express his desire to see his grandchildren.
For Meghan, however, the latest developments appear to have reinforced her decision to maintain her distance.
As investigators examine the evidence in the Philippines and British authorities review their earlier handling of the allegations, Thomas Markle Sr. faces intense public scrutiny over accusations he continues to deny.
The outcome now rests on the evidence investigators are working to verify, with potentially significant consequences for a family already divided by years of bitter public disputes.
