A wealthy Canadian real estate executive and his family were caught in a terrifying early-morning home invasion when three masked intruders stormed their luxury Toronto mansion, demanding valuables before a violent struggle left all four family members injured.
David Morton, CEO of the real estate and hospitality company MAC Group, was shot alongside his two adult daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, while his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was reportedly attacked with a hammer.
The nightmare unfolded around 3:45 a.m. Thursday, October 29, inside the family’s gated residence in Toronto’s exclusive Bridle Path neighborhood, an affluent enclave known for its sprawling estates and multimillion-dollar homes.
According to Toronto police, three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer entered the property through a rear door and confronted the family, demanding valuables. What followed was a desperate struggle as the family reportedly attempted to defend themselves against the intruders.
The confrontation quickly turned violent, with the attackers firing multiple shots inside the home. Morton and both daughters suffered gunshot wounds, while his wife was injured during the assault.
A source familiar with the incident told the Toronto Sun that Morton and one daughter were shot in their legs, while the other daughter was wounded near her arm. The source also claimed multiple family members were struck with a hammer, although police have publicly confirmed only that one victim suffered injuries from the weapon.
All four family members were rushed to the hospital. Two suffered what investigators described as “life-altering injuries” and remained hospitalized following the attack, while the other two sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith confirmed that the suspects demanded valuables but said investigators had not determined whether they escaped with anything.
The three intruders fled the property in an SUV before officers arrived, setting off a police investigation in one of Canada’s wealthiest residential neighborhoods. Authorities have not released descriptions of the suspects or announced any arrests.
Investigators have also not established whether the family was specifically targeted. Police believe the property’s affluent surroundings may have attracted criminals searching for valuables, but the precise circumstances behind the invasion remain under investigation.
The attack has rattled residents of the Bridle Path, where large estates, gated driveways and private security are common. The neighborhood has long been associated with some of Toronto’s wealthiest residents, making the brazen overnight violence particularly alarming.
The incident also comes amid growing concerns about home invasions across Toronto. According to figures cited by the Globe and Mail, the city recorded 119 home invasions in 2026 through late October, an increase of approximately 35% compared with the same period last year.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the assault, expressing sympathy for the injured family and urging anyone with information to assist investigators.
“I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood,” Chow wrote on social media, adding that she was praying for the family’s recovery.
Morton heads the family-owned MAC Group, whose operations include real estate, corporate housing, global mobility services and luxury Caribbean accommodations. His wife serves as company president, while daughter Maggie is also associated with the business. Cristina operates her own immigration law firm, Zohil-Morton Law.
Police have promised additional patrols in the neighborhood as investigators search for the three suspects. They are urging residents to review surveillance cameras, doorbell footage and dashcam recordings that could help identify the attackers or trace their escape.
For now, the investigation continues as two members of the family face a potentially long recovery from an attack that turned the supposed security of their gated mansion into a scene of violence.
