Students Steal School Bus And Crash It Into Ditch (Video)

A frightening scene unfolded at a Mississippi high school when students allegedly tampered with a school bus, sending the vehicle rolling into a field and ditch with children still aboard.

The incident happened Friday, November 6, at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, where authorities say students were playing around inside the bus when one student near the front released its air brake.

According to Flowood police, the bus began rolling into an open field, creating a dangerous situation for the students inside. The student accused of releasing the brake reportedly jumped off the vehicle and ran away as the bus continued moving.

Video circulating on TikTok shows the yellow school bus traveling across a grassy area before apparently coming to a stop. Another portion of the footage appears to show students scrambling inside the vehicle as the frightening situation unfolds.

At least one student was evaluated for injuries, according to the Rankin County School District. Officials have not publicly disclosed the child’s condition or the extent of any injuries.

The incident triggered a significant emergency response, with Flowood police, firefighters, Rankin County sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel rushing to the scene.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey initially confirmed that the bus had ended up in a ditch near Vine Drive, close to the high school.

As the footage spread online, furious viewers demanded answers about how students could have gained access to the bus’s controls in the first place.

“Why was it cranked, or even the keys in the ignition without the driver on the bus?” one commenter questioned.

Another viewer who identified themselves as a school bus driver said operators are expected to secure their vehicles whenever they step away, particularly when children are aboard.

Others directed their anger at the students involved, questioning the lack of discipline and the potentially devastating consequences of what appeared to be reckless horseplay.

“Some of these kids are out of control!!!” one person wrote.

TikTok creator Jenn, who shared footage of the incident and said her children previously attended schools in the district, expressed relief that they were no longer enrolled there.

“Y’all have no idea how happy I am that I don’t have kids in RCSD anymore,” she wrote.

While the videos have fueled speculation about whether the bus driver was present, authorities have not publicly confirmed the driver’s whereabouts when the brake was released.

The Rankin County School District said it was cooperating with law enforcement and emergency responders while gathering information and contacting affected families.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” district officials said.

The incident remains under investigation. Authorities have not announced whether the student accused of releasing the brake will face disciplinary measures or criminal charges.

For concerned parents, the disturbing episode raises an unsettling question: How did a school bus full of children end up rolling away after a student allegedly interfered with its controls?
