WWE Legend Headed to U.S. Senate

A former WWE superstar who once terrified opponents inside the wrestling ring could soon be fighting political battles on Capitol Hill.

Glenn Jacobs, better known to millions of wrestling fans as the legendary Kane, has emerged as a leading contender to replace Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn after her historic victory in Tennessee’s gubernatorial election.

The 59-year-old former professional wrestler and two-term Knox County mayor is reportedly gaining momentum among influential Tennessee Republicans, potentially putting one of WWE’s most recognizable stars just one appointment away from the U.S. Senate.

Blackburn defeated Democrat Jerri Green in the November 3 election, becoming Tennessee’s first female governor. Her victory now sets up a high-stakes political showdown over who will inherit her Senate seat when she takes office in January.

According to The Washington Sun, several Republican insiders believe Jacobs has an advantage because of his longstanding relationship with Blackburn, his conservative political credentials and his months of campaigning on her behalf.

Jacobs also shares a political connection with President Donald Trump, who previously praised the former wrestler’s future in Republican politics.

Earlier this year, Trump declared on Truth Social that Jacobs had a “BIG political future in Tennessee,” calling him a “great guy.”

But Kane isn’t the only Republican hoping to step into the spotlight.

Rep. Tim Burchett, an outspoken conservative known for challenging Washington’s political establishment, has openly expressed interest in the appointment. Burchett has spent months traveling across Tennessee, supporting Blackburn’s campaign and strengthening his political connections.

“I’d be honored to be considered,” Burchett told The Washington Sun. “I would love, love that opportunity.”

Burchett also insists that his willingness to challenge Republican leadership should be considered a strength rather than a liability.

“I represent my folks in Tennessee, not Washington big shots,” he said.

That independent streak has occasionally caused friction within his own party. Burchett was among eight House Republicans who voted to remove then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy in 2023, triggering weeks of turmoil on Capitol Hill.

Meanwhile, Jacobs offers a different kind of political appeal. His wrestling fame gives him national recognition, while his experience running Knox County has helped him build relationships with Tennessee conservatives.

One Republican operative described Jacobs as someone who can comfortably connect with both influential political insiders and everyday working-class voters.

Other names reportedly under consideration include Deputy Gov. Stuart McWhorter, who is leading Blackburn’s transition team, and Republican Rep. Chuck Fleischmann.

The political intrigue intensified after speculation surfaced that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth could be appointed to the Senate instead.

However, people familiar with Blackburn’s plans have pushed back against those rumors, saying Hegseth is not being considered. Trump has also publicly indicated that he wants Hegseth to remain at the Pentagon.

That leaves Jacobs and Burchett among the most closely watched contenders in a decision that could reshape Tennessee’s Republican leadership.

Blackburn will have the authority to appoint a temporary replacement once she becomes governor. The seat will then be contested in a 2028 election, meaning whoever receives the appointment could face voters less than two years later.

For Jacobs, the potential appointment would represent an extraordinary transformation from WWE’s masked powerhouse to one of the country’s most recognizable Republican lawmakers.

And while no final decision has been announced, the possibility of Kane trading the wrestling ring for the Senate floor is quickly becoming one of the more unusual political stories to emerge from the 2026 elections.
