Explosive Report Shows Biden-Harris Admin’s Targeting of Christians

A staggering 70% of enforcement actions by the Biden administration’s Department of Education (ED) have targeted faith-based and career schools, despite these institutions serving less than 10% of U.S. students, according to data revealed by the American Principles Project (APP).

The APP’s explosive report accuses the ED of a deliberate campaign against Christian colleges and career institutions. Policy Director Jon Schweppe didn’t mince words, calling it “a long-running scheme to punish Christian colleges ideologically opposed to the left’s agenda.”

“These institutions have faced egregious targeting,” Schweppe said. “Democrats have weaponized every part of the federal government to attack their opponents, and the Department of Education is no exception.”

Record Fines and Growing Scrutiny

Two of the nation’s most prominent Christian universities, Liberty University and Grand Canyon University (GCU), have become focal points of ED scrutiny. GCU, a nonprofit institution based in Arizona, is currently appealing a massive $37.7 million fine levied by the department. The ED alleged GCU misled students about doctoral program costs, a claim the university denies.

Liberty University also faced hefty penalties, with both Christian schools receiving fines larger than those imposed on public universities involved in high-profile scandals, such as Penn State and Michigan State. The APP highlighted the stark disparity in penalties: Christian schools have faced average fines of $815,000 under the Clery Act, compared to $228,571 for public and private institutions.

Adding to GCU’s woes, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona openly targeted the school during an April House Appropriations Committee hearing, vowing to crack down on so-called “predatory schools” that allegedly exploit first-generation students.

Christian Colleges Excluded from Federal Aid

The APP report also revealed that at least 12 Christian colleges have been banned from receiving federal student aid in recent years. By contrast, no Ivy League schools have faced similar punitive measures.

“These actions are not about justice; they’re about ideology,” Schweppe said. “It’s an alarming overreach of federal authority.”

Legal Battles and Pushback

Despite the pressure, GCU scored a major legal victory earlier this year when the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the ED unlawfully denied the school’s nonprofit status. The court remanded the case, rebuking the department for applying incorrect standards.

This victory, however, has done little to slow what critics call an ideological crackdown. APP argues that the Biden administration’s enforcement priorities are being used as a political weapon against institutions aligned with conservative values.

ED Denies Allegations

The Department of Education dismissed the report as misleading. A department spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “A school’s religious affiliation or nonprofit status has absolutely no bearing on our oversight and enforcement actions. Our top priority is protecting safety and academic opportunity for all students at institutions of higher education.”

The spokesperson accused the APP of distorting publicly available data to push a “false narrative.”

Political Fallout

The revelations have sparked outrage among conservative lawmakers and advocacy groups, who argue the Biden administration is overstepping its bounds. They contend the ED’s enforcement actions disproportionately harm Christian and career-focused schools, undermining their ability to serve students.

As the case against GCU returns to the ED for further review, the broader fight over federal oversight of faith-based institutions is far from over. Critics warn that unless these actions are curbed, the federal government will continue to wield its power to silence dissenting voices in education.
