President Donald Trump didn’t hold back when a reporter in the Oval Office questioned his legal authority to deport illegal immigrants. Instead, Trump turned the tables and delivered a pointed counterattack — one that reminded Americans of the chaos he inherited from the Biden years.
“Did he have the authority to open our borders to millions of unknowns?” Trump fired back. “That’s the real question.”
The exchange came as the Trump administration ramps up deportation operations nationwide, cracking down on violent foreign gangs and reversing Biden-era immigration policies that saw record-breaking border surges.
Trump: “Biden Unleashed Criminals Into Our Country”
When asked whether he had the authority to remove illegal immigrants without a court hearing, Trump doubled down — and then some.
“That’s what the law says,” Trump responded. “And that’s what our country needs right now. Unfortunately, they — meaning Biden and his team — allowed millions into our country. Totally unvetted. Totally unchecked.”
Trump cited alarming figures showing that many of the border-crossers were hardened criminals.
“We’ve identified over 11,000 murderers. Let that sink in. And over half of them killed multiple people,” Trump said. “These aren’t just ‘asylum seekers’ — they’re gang members, drug traffickers, and killers. Many came straight from prisons and mental institutions.”
Tren de Aragua Targeted as ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization’
One of the administration’s top enforcement priorities is dismantling Tren de Aragua — a brutal Venezuelan gang with a growing foothold inside the U.S. The DEA recently confirmed the gang’s leadership was operating in Colorado.
“We’re getting them out before they cause more damage,” said DEA Principal Deputy Administrator Rob Murphy in an interview with America Reports. “We’re not waiting for the next tragedy. We’re acting now.”
President Trump has officially designated the gang as a foreign terrorist organization, empowering law enforcement to treat its members as national security threats — not just criminal suspects.
But predictably, the ACLU has filed a lawsuit claiming Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act is “unconstitutional.” A federal judge in Washington, D.C., temporarily blocked the move, sparking a legal showdown.
America First Legal: “This Judge Wants to Run the Military”
“What the ACLU is seeking is outrageous,” said James Rogers, Senior Counsel at America First Legal. “They want an unelected judge to control our borders and national defense. That’s not just wrong — it’s dangerous.”
The administration isn’t backing down. The Justice Department filed an emergency appeal Friday morning, seeking to lift the injunction and move forward with deportation flights immediately.
Biden’s Border App Replaced With Self-Deportation Tool
One quiet but powerful change under Trump: the controversial CBP One app, once used to help migrants claim asylum, has been phased out. It’s been replaced with the CBP Home app — which encourages voluntary return to home countries.
Border encounters have dropped sharply since January, according to DHS data — a sign that Trump’s tough approach is having a measurable impact.
“Under Biden, people were waving in criminals. Under Trump, they’re waving goodbye,” said Matthew Continetti, political analyst and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Trump’s defiant Oval Office exchange wasn’t just about legalese — it was about restoring American sovereignty. And it struck a chord with voters tired of watching their communities change overnight.
“This isn’t about politics,” Trump said. “It’s about protecting the American people. We’re putting citizens first. That’s our job. And we’re not apologizing for it.”

Worth noting that Biden not only invited and allowed illegals to cross the border, but he also used taxpayer money to fly them into the U.S. as well as to fly them from city to city.
