Trump suggests Canada become 51st state

A recent meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has sparked intrigue and controversy, as sources reveal that Trump suggested Canada consider becoming the 51st state of the United States. The remark came during an intense discussion at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last Friday, where the two leaders addressed critical issues such as trade deficits, border security, and sweeping tariffs.

High-Stakes Talks at Mar-a-Lago

The unannounced meeting was prompted by Trump’s threats to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican goods unless both countries addressed U.S. concerns over illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Trudeau flew to Florida to confront the issue directly, hoping to prevent an economic fallout that could devastate Canada.

During the nearly three-hour conversation, Trump was direct in his criticism of Canada’s handling of trade and border issues. He accused Canada of allowing illegal immigrants and narcotics to flow into the U.S. and pointed to what he described as an unsustainable $100 billion trade deficit.

“Maybe It Should Be the 51st State”

At one point, the conversation took a provocative turn. According to sources present at the dinner, Trudeau warned Trump that the proposed tariffs would cripple Canada’s economy. Trump responded sharply, questioning whether Canada’s survival depended on “ripping off the U.S.” He then suggested, possibly tongue-in-cheek, that Canada might resolve the tension by becoming the 51st state.

The remark reportedly elicited nervous laughter from Trudeau and his delegation. Trump elaborated, suggesting Trudeau could retain his title as “prime minister” or take on the role of a governor. Sources noted that when someone joked about Canada’s liberal political leanings, Trump countered that the country could be split into two states: one liberal and one conservative.

A Clear Deadline

While the exchange was lighthearted at moments, Trump made it clear that he expected changes by January 20, the day of his inauguration. “If Canada cannot handle these issues, we’ll handle them,” Trump reportedly said, reiterating his intent to impose tariffs if his demands were not met.

The evening concluded with the Canadian delegation describing the meeting as “very positive,” though Trudeau’s team avoided commenting on the 51st state suggestion.

Mixed Reactions to Trump’s Remarks

Trump’s comments have drawn both criticism and amusement. Supporters of his hardline approach argue that his unconventional style underscores his commitment to putting America first. Critics, however, see the proposal as emblematic of an abrasive diplomatic style that could alienate U.S. allies.

Fox News reached out to both Trump’s and Trudeau’s representatives for comment, but neither camp immediately responded. For now, it remains unclear how Canada will address the challenges posed by Trump’s demands or whether the president-elect’s suggestion was more than just a passing quip.

  1. We should make a deal with Canada and Mexico. Both are even more corrupt than we are, so what’s the harm? At least they would then have the semblance of a legitimate government if we made them both states. The cartels probably would not like it, but then….

  2. Better yet, Canada annex the Northeast as a province, California, Oregon and Washington as a new province, give Alaska back to Russia, Texas back to Mexico and Florida to cuba.

  3. Biased fake news still spewing falsehoods, Trump and the Canadian PM were joking around and Trump was only having a little fun, nothing serious.

  4. The lefties think all the kidding and bantering is offensive and Hitlarian, I think it’s hilarious, that’s why us MAGA & MAHA patriots are happier than you libs.

  6. I wouldn’t believe that the Prime Minister would want to become part of the United States with Trump as President and his TERRIBLE cabinet picks!
We wanted to move to Canada!!!!
