A horrifying scene unfolded Monday morning at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, as a shooting left five people dead, including the suspected gunman, and sent shockwaves through the community.
The gunfire erupted shortly before 11 a.m. at the 28-acre K-12 private Christian school, leaving multiple victims with gunshot wounds, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes.
“Today is a sad, sad day,” Chief Barnes said during a press conference. Officers quickly located the juvenile suspect, believed to have been a student at the school. The shooter was deceased at the scene, and authorities confirmed there was no further active threat.
At least seven other individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, with injuries ranging from minor to critical. It remains unclear whether the deceased victims were students, staff, or other adults on the premises.
A Community in Shock
“Every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever. These types of traumas don’t go away,” Chief Barnes stated, visibly emotional. “My heart is heavy for my community. My heart is heavy for Madison.”
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers released a statement expressing solidarity with those affected. “We are praying for the kids, educators, and the entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information,” Evers said. “We are grateful for the first responders who acted swiftly.”
Investigation Underway
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has joined local authorities to assist in the investigation. Police have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack or detailed the suspect’s background.
Roads surrounding the school have been closed off as investigators work to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.

The incident adds to a grim list of school shootings in the United States, sparking renewed debates about school safety and gun violence. This marks the second school-related shooting in Wisconsin this year, heightening concerns across the state.
