Ex-CNN Pundit Offers ‘Confession’ About Hiding Biden’s Decline

In a candid and unexpected confession, former CNN editor-at-large Chris Cillizza acknowledged his failure to adequately investigate and report on President Joe Biden’s mental and physical decline during his tenure at the network. Speaking in a video posted to his YouTube channel, Cillizza apologized for brushing off concerns about the now 82-year-old president’s fitness for office, even as signs of deterioration mounted.

“As a reporter, I have a confession to make,” Cillizza began, his tone both somber and reflective. “I should have pushed harder earlier for more information about Joe Biden’s mental and physical well-being and any signs of decline.”

Ignoring the Warning Signs

Cillizza, a veteran journalist who joined CNN after a stint at The Washington Post, admitted that during his time at the network, he was often approached by Republicans urging him to cover Biden’s gaffes, stumbles, and moments of apparent confusion. Instead, he dismissed their concerns, claiming he hadn’t seen sufficient evidence of decline.

“I brushed them off,” Cillizza said, despite instances of Biden losing his train of thought during speeches and even a widely publicized fall at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation in 2023.

Adding to the controversy, a Wall Street Journal report revealed how Biden’s aides allegedly managed his schedule to accommodate his “good days and bad days.” Meetings with top officials were reportedly rescheduled or canceled entirely if Biden was not up to the task.

The Guilt of “Age-Shaming”

Cillizza cited the White House’s aggressive stance against questions about Biden’s fitness as a key factor in his reluctance to probe deeper. “The White House and the people around Joe Biden were absolutely adamant that suggesting anything—asking the question about whether he was in some physical, mental, or both decline—was offensive,” he explained.

The journalist admitted that accusations of “age-shaming” weighed on him. “I think that impacted me at some level,” he said.

A Pivotal Debate and a Stunning Exit

The tipping point came after Biden’s disastrous performance during a debate on June 27, which made his struggles undeniable. “That debate clearly was a bad day,” Cillizza remarked. In its aftermath, Biden faced mounting pressure from Democratic leaders, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to step aside.

Biden subsequently withdrew from the presidential race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, who ultimately lost the election to Donald Trump.

Cillizza Faces Backlash

Cillizza’s confession has sparked sharp criticism, with many accusing him of hypocrisy. Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, slammed the former CNN pundit on X (formerly Twitter).

“There was no bigger and more obsessive ‘McCain truther’ regarding my dad’s age when he ran in 2008 [when he was 71 mind you] than Chris,” McCain wrote. “He ignored Biden because he’s a hack.”

Looking Back, and Forward

Reflecting on his failure to pursue the story more aggressively, Cillizza admitted, “I probably should’ve pushed harder on the Biden age stuff because, in retrospect, it’s clear that the people close to him knew that at best, he had some good days and some bad days.”

The former journalist now questions the timing of what was known and why it wasn’t disclosed earlier. “When did people near him know, what did they know, and why did they not share?” he asked.

Cillizza’s apology may be too little, too late for critics, but it shines a spotlight on the media’s role in shaping public perception and the delicate balance between accountability and sensitivity. Whether this marks a turning point for how the press covers similar issues in the future remains to be seen.

  1. More and more is coming out about Biden with mental problems, Pelosi with bone issues (broken hip), and other both Republican and Democratic members of Congress that underscore the need for Age Limitations for holding any office. Even in Civil Service there are age limits for certain jobs that require either mental or physical standards to be met. Why should Congressinal Members, the POTUS, or members of the SCOTUS be any different. Its not a shame to reach those ages, its natural progression and decline no matter how hard we try to fight it. Someone or group needs to address this and get it pushed through. I suggest an age of 75 should be the absolute maximum age if still functioning. I am 77 now and there is no way I would want to keep working. For anyone to continue is strickly an ego problem or narcism issues. This is not a politically based observation, but a human based observation of what age does to us and the desire to stay young, vibrant, and appear be be in 100% control. We are human and do age, there is no changing that, our bodies and minds start to decline and we should step aside, we have done our work, so set your tools down and gracefully walk away and enjoy the rest of your lives instead of going down in flames and shame for not being able to do what you use to do. I use to run a mile a week but today I try to avoid even running to the mail box.

  2. They have denied till the cows came home, but the people with brains knew better all along. Not just CNN, but every member of the media have lied unconvincingly. Hope the FCC does a very thorough job investigating their crimes.

  3. Our esteemed press, liars, cheaters, POS.,now they want to tell the truth. 🧌💩🦥
